PROGRESS WITH THE IB ESCA is taking its final lap on the way to become an authorized IB World School. All the documentation is now submitted to the IB Office in Hague and we are expecting the IBDP authorization visit to take place in the early December 2015. During the visit, IB team members will meet with the Governing Board, Management Board, Teaching Staff as well as with Students and Parents. As part of the preparation for the authorization visit, Head of the IB Continuum, Ms Marta Bobiatynska attended the IB Regional Conference, which took place at the end of October in Hague, Netherlands. During the conference she had a chance to meet with heads of schools and IB educators from all over the world and establish connections with other schools. The importance of ESCA being the first school in the Kyrgyz Republic to apply for the IB authorization has been recognized by the IB Director General, Dr Siva Kumari, who has accepted the invitation to visit our school in the near future. More detailed information about the authorization visit will follow once specific dates are confirmed with the IB Office.

Tuesday will be for students ages 6 through 10. Wednesday will be for students ages 11 through Secondary. The event will begin at 9:30 both days and parents are welcome and encouraged to attend. FALL FESTIVAL CELEBRATION AT ESCA
On Friday 6 November ESCA celebrated the Fall Festival, where students and staff dressed up as their favourite book characters or wore their Halloween costume. In the morning students and parents were welcomed by Andrew Henry from “Andrew Henry’s Meadow”, Stanley Yelnats IV from the "Holes", Pippi Longstocking and many others. The students participated in various activities, including picking wild mushrooms around the school, counting the corn seeds and pumpkin carving. In the afternoon a group of judges from the Parents Association and the school administration selected the best and most creative costumes, as well as the best painted and the best carved pumpkins. Congratulations and thank you for sharing this wonderful day with us!
MESSAGE FROM THE PAMC Thank you for everyone's wonderful support of Book Week and the fundraising for the ESCA Library. The Garage Sale this weekend was a huge success, and our coffee morning was so enjoyable that we are considering organising them on a monthly basis from now on. Thank you especially to the volunteers who helped with all our efforts -‐ as the saying goes "many hands make light work", but I think having help from such great people makes it fun too. The final count is still coming, but over 20,000 som has been raised for the school library, not to mention donations of almost 20 books! THANK YOU!

PRESCHOOL
Welcome back to school after what we hope was a wonderful and exciting half term break with family and friends. This week in Preschool we are learning about Animals in general and incorporating Science into our lessons. We will be observing, classifying and comparing animals over the next several weeks. The different classes have been working with different groups/kinds of animals. You can help your child learn about animals by taking walks in your neighborhood to look for animals and by talking about animals in and around your home—everything from pets to insects. This is to develop the important attitudes of respect for life and a sense of responsibility where living organisms are concerned. In Preschool 1 we learned about mother and baby animals, about animals living in the sea and how they are different from animals living on land, about farm animals and insects. We went around our school ground looking for animals, we heard dogs, we saw birds, and we even touched an earthworm; we also tried to imitate animals' sounds; we did animals puzzles and sang many songs about animals like "Oh MacDonald" and "The Tadpole Song". Next week we will be learning in depth about Jungle animals. We had a ‘’kolourful’’ week with the sound of the letters /c/ and /k/. In Preschool 2 we are learning about Reptiles and studying about the Komodo dragon for the letter /k/ and Crocodile for the letter /c/. Creating cupcakes, crowns for the king, crocodile, komodo dragon, kites and painting with carrots. We also learned the Five Cheeky Monkeys song in an exciting way with a hungry crocodile trying to SNAP them up for tea! We practiced writing the letter /c/ and /k/ and some Montessori work with reptiles. Counting with the hungry crocodile and fishy biscuits. Watch out for our Komodo dragons!
This week in Preschool 3 we have been working on the letters C and K. We have been having lots of fun talking about cats (Kittens), crocodiles, kangaroos, and Koalas. The children have enjoyed learning new poems, songs, and dances with these letters and animals. In math we have been working on graphing our shapes and numbers 0 to 20. One of our favourite projects this week was working on our kangaroo pockets with a baby joey. Also I (Ms Libby) promise to start sending homework emails again next week. I will also send information about parent teacher conferences next week. SO keep your eyes open to some interesting stuff! One of the educational challenges that we deal with every day is finding sufficient time during the school day to address the unique and diverse learning needs of some of our students, i.e. ESL, Anniversary Show practice. We continue to search for ways to restructure our regular school day to accommodate students who need additional time and assistance to experience academic success. Hence, we strongly encourage you NOT to pick up your child from school before 15:30. Please ensure your child has warm, well fitting and practical shoes, jackets, hats and scarves. Please ensure you pack a full change of clothes daily just in case of accidents. The little ones like to help wash their hands and often get wet sleeves. Please remember to label all clothes and shoes. Thank you for your continuous support.
