After breakfast a road transfer will bring you to Kasane in Bot-swana and further to Chobe National Park where you stay at the intimate with only 5 tents camp Chobe Under Canvas. The camp offers all essential comforts of today in the middle of abundant wildlife and beautiful nature.

Among the great game reserves of the world, Chobe National Park is home to one of the largest concentrations of elephant on the African continent. Surrounded by wildlife management areas and reserves that allow game to roam freely, the 11 700km. (4 500 square mile) reserve is located in the far north of Botswana, bordering on the Chobe River. Home to a variety of big game,

Chobe is particularly well known for its large herds of elephant and buffalo, as well as the two ante-lope that cannot be encountered anywhere else in Botswana, the puku and Chobe bushbuck.

Chobe offers both dry savannah and floodplains. Dense teak woodland provides thick cover in the north-eastern parts of the reserve. Watching the elephant families drink and bathe in the river is an un-forgettable sight, all the more impressive when herds of buffalo, rafts of hippo and gigantic Nile croco-diles are part of the scene. Lion and spotted hyena are frequently seen on the floodplains, where red lechwe, puku, zebra, sable and roan come out to graze.

Well-used animal trails meander between five ensuite safari tents at Chobe Under Canvas, positioned at exclusive campsites in the northern reaches of the park, within driving distance of the Chobe River. Each canvas tent boasts a comfortable double bed, as well as an ensuite bathroom with flush w.c and steaming hot bucket shower, with water delivered on request. The guest areas comprise spa-cious tents for dining, pre-dinner drinks. Delicious meals cooked over the coals are shared around a blazing fire.

After the morning game drive and breakfast a road transfer will bring you to Kasane Airport for your light aircraft flight to San-dibe, your first camp in the Okavango Delta.

A maze of sparkling lagoons, meandering channels and over-grown islands teeming with wildlife, Botswana’s Okavango Delta lies like a sparkling jewel at the heart of the Kalahari Desert. Known as the river that never finds the sea, the Delta’s crystal-clear channels spread over the thirstlands of the Kalahari with their papyrus-fringed banks and fertile floating islands. Adapted for a life in and out of water, the elegant red lechwe and shy sita-tunga are found in this watery wilderness.

DAY 6,7:

OKAVANGO DELTA

5

Page 6: Victoria falls & botswana

Lion, cheetah, leopard and African wild dog share the floodplains with large herds of elephant and buffalo. Hippo inhabit the deeper channels and lagoons, while honey badgers can be seen in broad daylight. Tall termite mounds are homes for families of dwarf and banded mongoose.

Tucked away beneath a cool forest canopy of wild palms and gnarled fig trees, Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge looks out onto the Delta through a maze of brilliant green papyrus. Situated on a private concession, Sandibe has exclusive traversing rights over 22 500 hectares (55 600 acres) of wildlife land adjacent to the Moremi Game Reserve. Behind the lodge, golden-grasses floodplains stretch into the distance, framed by lush palm islands and the spires of giant termite mounds. The beautiful organic architecture of the thatched lodge blends seamlessly with one of Africa’s most breathtaking landscapes.

Tread in the footprints of elephants on ancient game paths that lead between the eight guest cot-tages. Each thatched ensuite cottage features an open-air shower, allowing guests to feel part of the forest. Walls are airy screens, admitting the refreshing Okavango breezes, and the cottages are fur-nished in a fusion of ochre and tactile textures, from leather and silk to rough-hewn wood. Private decks are idyllic vantage points onto a birdwatcher’s paradise. Tall overarching trees echo the soar-ing roofs of the guest sitting and dining area, while quiet decks offer views across the wetlands and savannah grasslands. The shaded swimming pool is a refreshing oasis for a cooling dip. At night a constellation of candles illuminates the boma with its al fresco banquet and fine wines from the charcoal-cooled cellar. Alternatively, private decks provide a romantic setting for an intimate dinner for two.

After the morning game drive and breakfast a light aircraft flight will bring you to your second camp in the Okavango Delta, Xar-anna. Although Xaranna is also in the Okavango Delta, it will be a different experience.

Xaranna Okavango Delta Camp enjoys luxurious solitude on its own Delta island within a 272 000 hectare (672 125 acre) exclu-sive wildlife concession. Taking its inspiration from the water lily, Xaranna is a delightful camp with just nine sleep ensuite safari tents that combine canvas and bleached timber. The overall at-mosphere of the camp is light and airy, in keeping with the gentle beauty of its environment. Each tent boasts a romantic outdoor
