Additionally, my interview
with Colten Mosbach was
very interesting. He said
that he never enjoyed any of
his high school years because
he would rather stay at home
and play video games. He did
say that last year was harder
because he took more mean-
ingful class to fill his time.
Colten plans on attending
Iowa Central Community
College to do something with
technology.
Brandon Assman is another
senior that I interviewed.
Brandon likes this year better
than others, because it is
much easier due to the harder
classes last year. After high
school, Brandon plans on
attending Sheldon to become
a power lineman.
My last interview was Morri-
son Ellis. Morrison enjoys
this year more because it is
more fun and because last
year, he had more home-
work. After high school,
Morrison plans on attending
Iowa Lakes Community Col-
lege to become a mechanic

Super Bowl Commercials
by Austin Wiskus
The Super Bowl is an event
that a lot of people are excited
for. Secretly, though, we love
the unique and funny com-
mercials more than the actual
game. It's a great time for
companies to sell their prod-
ucts and advertise them. With
the amount of people who
watch the Super Bowl, there
is no better time to advertise.
However, companies pour so
much money into marketing
at this time of the year; it's
quite risky.
Personally, my favorite com-
mercial was the Skittles com-
mercial when the boy threw
the Skittles through the win-
dow shouting, “Katie.” Some
students like other commer-
cials. Cody Schumacher liked
the television series Stranger
Things season two trailer. He
said it really got him excited,
because he loves the show
and loves everything about it.
Trevor Dettman likes the an-
noying, yet funny commer-
cials. Throughout the years,
the commercials have had
their ups and downs. Most of
them are actually creative. I'm
very excited to see what next
year holds

Senior Interviews
by Keaton Hammen
In May, the South Central
Calhoun will have approxi-
mately sixty graduates.
Many of the kids have dif-
ferent thoughts about how
high school went for them
and also have different
plans after high school.
Some will go off to college
to further their education
and others will go straight
to the workforce. After in-
terviewing for different sen-
ior boys, I got very different
answers to what they
thought about high school
and their plans after high
school.
Chase Mosbach told me that
he enjoyed this year more
than any other years of high
school because it has been
more fun. He said that last
year was much more com-
plicated, because he didn't
come to school very often.
After high school, Chase
plans on attending Iowa
Lakes Community College
to major in diesel technolo-
gy.
by Sydnie Schultz
After high school, Allison
plans to go to Northwest-
ern College in Orange City,
Iowa. She plans on major-
ing in athletic training or
biology. She will also con-
tinue her volleyball career
there as a Red Raider.
In high school, Allison has
been involved in volley-
ball, basketball, track, Na-
tional Honor Society, and
rotary interact club. Allison
is also the senior class vice
president. Her favorite pas-
time is playing with her
cats and watching football
with her dad and brother.
The things she will miss
the most about high school
is being able to see her
friends every day.
Allison's best high school
memory is all the times
that Kelsi Carlson fell dur-
ing a sports practice. In ten
years, Allison sees herself
living in a small town. She
hopes to have cats and a
family. She also helps to be
working in a hospital as a
physical therapist. She
looks forward to making
new friends in college. Al-
lison says her biggest pet
peeve is when she bites
into a piece of pizza and all
of the cheese comes off. “I
just get mad and don't
know what to do.”

Brianna Hicks is a senior at
South Central Calhoun
High School. Brianna plans
to attend Iowa Central
Community College for her
RN and then transfer to
University to get her BSN.
Brianna's favorite movie is
Divergent, and her favorite
song is called Any by Cole
Swindell. Her favorite pas-
time is going to the races,
attending tractor pulls, and
spending time with her
family.
In time, Brianna plans to
travel to Florida to visit her
aunt. Brianna's best high
school memory is her jun-
ior year prom; she got to
spend it with her good
friends and got to dress up,
which allowed her and her
mother to spend some qual-
ity time together shopping.
Brianna’s mother is her
biggest inspiration, because
she's the strongest person
she knows. She's going to
miss seeing familiar faces
such as her friends after she
graduates, but is looking
forward to starting her new
journey. In ten years, she
sees herself working as a
nurse, owning a house, be-
ing married with kids, and
of course, having a dog.
Brianna's advice to under-
classmen is to be involved,
go out for sports, but still
focus on your schoolwork.

By Ryan Brown
Deianeira Grage of Rock-
well City is a senior at
South Central Calhoun. In
the fall of 2017, she plans
to attend the University of
Iowa in the pre-medicine
track. Today, Deianeira is
involved in multiple school
activities. These include
rotary interact club, band,
dance team, National Hon-
or Society, the five in a row
state champion SCC Aca-
demic Decathlon team,
speech, and tag.
When Deianeira isn't being
involved in one of her
many activities, she usually
can be found watching Net-
flix, listening to music, or
studying for her school
work. One of her favorite
school memories is of her
junior year of Academic

In the fall, Myk plans to
attend Iowa Central Com-
munity College for photog-
raphy. All throughout high
school, she was very in-
volved in a wide range of
activities. Basketball,
cheerleading, band, and
dance kept her very busy.
Myk was a top six solo
dancer two years in high
school and received two
division 1 ratings. In cheer-
leading, she was also
awarded along with the
team various trophies for
large and small group
stunts.
One of Myk’s best high
school memories is staying
in hotels for State Dance
and Cheer competitions.
Like most high school kids,
Myk is going to miss see-
ing her friends every day,
but she is looking forward
to meeting new people at
college. With Myk’s active
lifestyle, she likes to spend
time with friends and fami-
ly or go to the lakes in her
free time.
High school goes by fast on
its own, so Myk advises
students not to procrasti-
nate or wish this time
away. If she could do any-
thing differently, she would
try not to procrastinate as
much. We wish you luck,
Myk, on all your future
plans.

Cody was involved in foot-
ball, where he was a cap-
tain, wrestling, basketball,
NHS, FFA, track, soccer,
and CCD. Cody is most
looking forward to having
independence and earning
money. In ten years, he
sees himself married with
kids and having a good job.
Cody’s biggest inspiration
is his girlfriend, Morgan.
His favorite pastimes are
playing PS4, going fishing,
hanging out with his
friends, and hanging out
with Morgan. If he could
travel to anywhere in the
world, he would travel to
Mexico.
Cody's advice to under-
classmen is to take the hard
classes first, as well as
don't procrastinate. If a
book were to be written
about Cody's life, it would
be titled, Somehow I Man-
aged.

by Alex Campbell.
Cody Schumacher is a sen-
ior here at SCC, and he has
some pretty big plans after
high school. He plans on
going to DMACC in
Boone for nursing, then
becoming a nurse practi-
tioner. Cody's best high
school memory is also
what he will miss the most:
messing around with his
friends.
Decathlon. “All of my friends
were on the team last year and
we grew really close”.
Deianeira also said that she
remembers when she and her
friends what to the Blue Bunny
Ice Cream Shop to celebrate
her best friend’s birthday. She
is excited to meet new friends
at college, but she said she will
miss the old ones when she
leaves. Deianeira plans to
graduate from the University
of Iowa with a medical degree.
Congratulations Deianeira on
graduating high school, and
good luck with what's to come!
First year at SCC
by Mariya Streck
This year is my first year at South
Central Calhoun. I switched here
from Carroll high at the end of my
sophomore year. I switched because
I wasn't doing so well at Carroll,
and I came here to get my focus and
grades back on track.
So far, it has been really good. I
love it here. I have made a lot of
new friends, and I really like the
teachers here. I also go to school
with my boyfriend, so that's a bo-
nus. The teachers at SCC are very
involved with helping their students
succeed.
Mr. Knapp introduced me to so
many college opportunities, scholar-
ships, and tests that were needed
before college, and it's only my jun-
ior year. I went from having bad
grades to having almost straight A's.
I love the community here as well;
everyone knows each other and is
super nice. I don't feel nervous to
talk to anyone or to get up in front
of a room and speak.
I am really glad I decided to come
here. The only disadvantage is the
drive here from Carroll every morn-
ing, plus the stairs. Other than that,
I'm proud to be at SCC, and I can't
wait to graduate and continue my
schooling at Iowa Central Commu-
nity College
Students Reflect on
School-to-Career
by Myk Schoop and Aspen Ellis
School to Career gives students a
chance to go out and explore dif-
ferent career paths. Last semes-
ter, there were fourteen senior /
juniors in this class. Students job-
shadow people and places like
preschool teachers, history teach-
ers, hog barns, the Lake City hos-
pital, or local farmers. This class
allows them to choose any job
they may be interested in and try
it out for themselves.
For a grade in the class, students
turn in weekly journals explain-
ing what their job entailed for the
week. Sometimes, the weekly
journal is about the job and asks
questions about the benefits, pay,
or the outlook in this job in the
future. School-to-career not only
gives an idea of the job they
chose but it also teaches the stu-
dents life skills. They are re-
quired to be more responsible,
sign in and out of school for the
work, manage time, and learn
how to work with coworkers and
the boss. School to career is a
great class that South Central
offers and all of the students en-
rolled really enjoy it
