ABOUT UNIVERSITY OF MADRAS
The University of Madras has entered in 157th year of excellence in 2014-15. The University of
Madras, organised on the model of London University, was incorporated on 5 September 1857,
by an act of the legislative council of India. The university has as its motto ‘Doctrina Vim
Promovet Insitam’ meaning ‘learning promotes (one’s) innate talent’. Madras University is the
mother of almost all the old Universities of south India. The University area of jurisdiction has
been confined to three districts of Tamil Nadu in recent years. This is consequent to
establishment of various universities in the State and demarcation of the University territories.
This University has been growing from strength to strength while widening its teaching and
research activities. The University imparts both Under Graduate and Post Graduate Education
through the Affiliated Institutions which are spread over the districts of Chennai, Thiruvallur and
Kancheepuram. Apart from teaching, research activities in Arts, Humanities, Science,
Management and Technology shape the academic tenor of the University. A number of
institutions affiliated to Madras University concentrate on research activities offering Ph.D.,
Programmes in their respective field of specialisation. The University also offers teaching and
research programmes in its four campuses. The 68 University Departments of study and research
are spread over four campuses organised into 18 Schools each of which offer Post Graduate
Courses in respective specialisation, part time and full time Ph.D. Programmes, Diploma and
Certificate Programmes. Assessing the need for educating a large number of people in the
country, the University offers both Under Graduate and Post Graduate programmes through the
Institute of Distance Education. The Institute is popularly called IDE of Madras University.
Some of the courses offered by IDE has no parallel in this country to name a few. The University
has been accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with the five
star rating first, and later with an A rating. The UGC has recognised the University as one of the
centres for "potential for excellence" in the country.
ABOUT DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE
The Board of Studies in Commerce was first established in 1926 and B.Com.(Pass) course was
first instituted in March 1945. A full-fledged Commerce Department was established in 1952-53,
M.Com. Degree course was introduced in the year 1976-77 and Ph.D. course was commenced in
the year 1975-76. The Department specializes in International business and Finance,
Development Banking, Marketing, Business Finance, Organizational Behaviour, International
Business and Financial Markets. ESDC (Entrepreneurship-cum-Skill Development Centre) has
been established by the Department of Higher Education, Government of Tamil Nadu in July
2012. Further, the Department has been accorded permission by the Department of Higher
Education, Government of Tamil Nadu for the up-scaling of the department into a Centre for
Excellence in the year 2012. Our objective is to impart knowledge and skill in commerce and
business related courses, to provide exposure to business decision making skills, to prepare high
quality human resources for Teaching and Research, to develop positive attitudes and values so
as to strengthen the personality traits among students. Our mission is to provide quality
education and training in commerce and business related courses and to develop skilled,
knowledgeable human resources who by their positive thinking and value based personality
would provide effective leadership in teaching, research and careers in Commerce and business
related fields with the greater vision to grow to assume an enviable position in the realm of
higher education in the whole world
GENESIS OF THE CONFERENCE
Sustainability is the key driver of business innovation. The term sustainability is simply defined
as "the ability to sustain" or "the capacity to endure". Today sustainability is the future of every
society, for today industries and businesses; it is also about commercial success. It is mandate to
transform business to respect environmental limits while fulfilling social wants and needs has
become an unparalleled platform for innovation on strategy, design, manufacturing and brand,
offering massive opportunities to compete and to adapt to a rapidly evolving world. The change
everyone need is to transform markets i.e. both how to produce and consume as well the ways in
which we define and measure value and progress.
The big challenge confronts not just for business and economics, but for massive social, political,
technological, cultural and behavioral transition. to achieve sustainability governments need to
set incentives, targets and rules for a level for playing field, civil society actor to hold us to
account and to experiment with new ways of delivering social impact and every business has to
take action on their own to reward sustainable business models.
Today’s business transformation can be achieved by the way of innovation, execution, meeting
marketing needs promptly and effectively on international level without compromising the
ability of future generations to meet their needs. i.e. successful businesses of tomorrow will be
those that lead and create value both inside and outside the walls of the company i.e. managed by
both in long -term as well short term measures, developing strategies to balance the competition
and cooperation, design and deliver product and services that meet social and environmental
needs, shifting to more resilient business models by productive methods, incorporating true costs
of environmental and social resources in a transparent and collaborative manner is a sources for
competitive advantage of business. To understand simply, Sustainable development reinforce all
three pillars of development – economic, social, and environmental – and recognizes that long-
term prosperity requires a careful balance between benefits reaped today and ensuring the well-
being of people and planet tomorrow.
Sustainability means not only eco-efficiency, but also eco effectiveness, i.e. go green. Because
every business and communities depends upon healthy and productive ecosystems. Every
sustainable business can visualise - a world where all humans have access to healthcare,
nutrition, energy, shelter, mobility, education and economic opportunity (Access), where the
market system is based on fundamental ethics, inclusive and fair approaches, and transparency
(Accountability), where sustainable brands fulfill their promise to deliver goods and services that
satisfy societal and individual demand simultaneously (Consumers & Brands), where energy
systems power our economy without increasing global temperatures beyond 2°C (Energy &
Climate), where liberalized trading systems are truly free, fair and sustainable (Globalization),
where natural resources and systems are preserved and renewed (Resources & Ecosystems), and
where clear goals and the promise of value creation help companies to navigate the sustainability
journey (Strategy & Innovation).
CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES
The objectives of two days international conference will focus on how innovation drives
sustainable growth in all the functional areas of business and also bring together all leading
academic scientists, practitioners, industry people, researchers and research scholars to exchange
and share their experiences and research results about all aspects of Business Sustainability and
Innovation i.e. how innovation and sustainable practices help companies to gain competitive
edge, increase their market share and enhance their capabilities to boost shareholders value. It
also provides the premier interdisciplinary forum for researchers, practitioners and educators to
present and discuss the most recent innovations, trends, and concerns, practical challenges
encountered and the solutions adopted in the field of Business Sustainability.

GUIDELINE FOR PAPER SUBMISSION
Submission Process: Abstract and Full Paper must be submitted to
Length: Full papers should not exceed 3000 words (including references).
Title: The title should be brief.
Abstract: Abstract not more than 150 words, It should also include up to five key words
about the paper.
Headings: Should be short and clear. The paper should have an introduction, literature
review, objectives/research gaps, methodology, limitations/scope for future work,
conclusion.
Format: The paper should have a cover page giving the title, author’s name, complete
address, telephone number, fax number, and email of the author. In case of co-authors,
these details should also be provided for each co-author. Correspondence will be sent to
the first author unless otherwise indicated.
Margins: 2.5 cm. or 1 inch, Font : Times New Roman, 12 point, Spacing : 1.5.
References: Citation to other publications must be in standard style. At the end of the
paper a reference list in alphabetical order must be given as follows:
o For books: Surname, initials, (year), title, publisher, place of publication.
e.g. Mckenzie J. (1996), Paradox: The New Strategic Dimension, McGraw
-Hill, Berkshire.
o For journals: surname, initials, (year), journal, volume (number), pages.
e.g. Volberda H.W. (1997), Building Flexible Organization for Fast
