themes for the next two months what a team! And what a range ofmeaning for each of us! What issuccess and prosperity for you?Answers on a post cardplease...and wouldn't that be aninteresting exercise.

For me 'spiritual success' is'keeping your head when allaround are loosing theirs' (Kiplingapproximately) and that is all

about being spiritually groundedand secure in your Christ nature,Our spiritual way shower Jesusdemonstrated his spiritual successby approaching his immanent andunjust death with calm serenity andI pray that we all have the opportu-nity to do that when our turncomes.

What about spiritual prosperity?Well I guess that's the spiritual

money in the bank that will en-able us to do just that. Spiritualprosperity is knowing that there isan inexhaustible source that is al-ways providing us with what weneed. That is not necessarily whatwe want and part of spiritual suc-cess has to be being clear aboutthat! Then we have to be goodstewards of assets we are responsi-

ble for. It's an inexhaustible sourcenot supply subtle difference. Fi-nally we need to give as we receiveby tithing.

Yes the BIG frog as the 4T'scourse has it. Giving away a tenthof your time, treasure and talent.

Tithing is the only promise in thebible and the only way to demon-strate this law is to do it because itdefies rationality! Remember, youtithe to where you receive yourspiritual good. So each week ormonth I recommend that you sitdown and prayerfully considerwhere you have been blessed andtithe your treasure accordingly. Now we hope that much of your

tithe will come Unity's way! Butmaybe a friend was particularlysupportive with some counsel?Maybe you read an excellent andinspiring article in a magazine likeContact. (You have subscribed online haven't you?) It is good spiri-tual practice to make this a regularconsideration rather than just al-ways tithing to the same place. Then you need to consider where

you will give your time and yourtalent in the same way. There is a little country squished

between India and China calledBhutan. They have developed agross national happiness index toguide their public policies. What anovel idea, what should we as agovernment do to make our nationhappier!! So do your own happi-ness index. What can you do that

will make you happier? I suggestthat giving and serving has to behigh on your list to make you suc-cessful and prosperous.

WHAT DO YOU WANT? ...This is an important question. Do

you want spiritual guidance, to be

coached, get advice, or get feed-back?

Recently, I thought someonewanted spiritual guidance, but, as ittuned out, they wanted feedbackand advice. It got me thinkingabout the difference.

Feedback is information. It cantake the form of thinking throughwhat might happen if someonepursued a specific course of action,

or it could be information aboutwhat already is as a basis for im-provement.

Advice is a recommendationgiven by someone you think isknowledgeable.

Coaching takes feedback/adviceto another level. Coaching leadsyou to action within a specific ti-meframes, based on goals, and aplanned outcomes. Feedback isimportant. It can give you valuableinformation. But if you just talkabout it, it may not be integratedinto a course of action that changesthe outcome.

Feedback with coaching requirescommitment. If someone doesn'tdo it, and you're their coach, youcan call them to account for thepromises they've made. If they didnot do it, and you gave feedback oradvice you could only say, "I toldyou so!" if matters got worse.

This really hit home when some-one asked me for help recently, andI sat down with X to help himthink through what sounded like aconflict of styles. I thought hewanted resolution. He was clearlyupset by the lack of communica-

    BoardChaplainsCornerBy: Dr. Judith

    Hartman

tion, and what he perceived as apower struggle with a co-worker.What happened? Nothing! He gotinformation from me about what hecould do. And I realized somethingI haven't thought about for years.

How could anyone mistake talk-ing as action? Talking about some-thing is not the same as doing

    something about it!

OK here it is. If your game is tojust play the nice guy or gal, thenyou may wait and wait for the rightmoment to confront the situation.Or maybe your game is to getfeedback in order to find agreementthat you're right! And you've for-gotten in both cases that you're nottrying to defeat the other person, you're aiming to defeat the prob-lem. So what are you afraid of?You might be afraid that if youbring up your issues with another, they might have their own list foryou! If you were truly committedto solve the problem, wouldn't youwant to identify and resolve all ofit? Both what you're aware of, andwhat someone else can bring to thetable?

What is required to do somethingabout it? That is simple. Contact aPrayer Chaplain and work with thatperson to pray you through theevent.

Continue personal prayer foryour ability to see right action inthe outcome.

Make a decision to take actiononly when it is very clear in your

mind that the list of actions in-cludes letting it go!Once you decide, and follow

through, the results will tell youwhether you are on or off course.

It is important to pay close atten-tion and self correct as you go. Ifyou do not ever take action, youwill not find out what works orwhat does not work. But, you willnot t be left in the dark. Your out-

come will demonstrate the wisdomof your action. Frankly, I preferhuman contact and the possibilityof an unknown resolution to a littleconflict and the loneliness of beingright! The need to be right ties youto a range of thinking that can keepyou stuck, as if your ankle was tiedto a stake in the ground. This lim-

its not only what you think is pos-sible; it limits the action you cantake. How much leeway do yourreasons give you?

    So here's the practice I recom-mend:

    Stop talking and start praying!

Experience the freedom to thinkand act in new ways.

Find a coach! Make the phone

call or appointment, have the con-versation, know what you want, make requests, and fulfill promisesListen, consider, and tell the truth.

Take action. Then realize thatyou are not talking about it any-more, you're doing it!

Fulfillment is the reward of ac-tion.

Take action now. Misery is inthe story you tell. Action replaces

it! Do not confuse stubbornnesswith strength.

Listen, take action, and over-come obstacles.

    Be strong!

    President's MessageHello~ My Fellow Come-Unity-

As I sit to reflect on the summerofferings, its down right chilly! Iam taking the time to continue toprepare my spirit for a good atti-tude in the face of the valley heat. For me anything under 102 degreesis a good day!

First, if you read my contributionfrom our last newsletter, there isone correction that I would like toaddress.

    I referred to the Quingdom,

which is a blend of queen and king, not the Queendom. It is referring toa time in the world when the Re-ceptive nature of the Divine pre-cedes the pro-Creative in the sa-cred yin/yang union. As the truemasculine holds the door open forthe true feminine, born of mutualrespect and honor. As we co-createthe dawning of conscious and Sa-cred culture, notice your inner yin

and yang. I have a playful distinc-tion of the Quingdom in my book,Simply Rich ~ A Cosmic Ro-mance. Thanks!

As we approach the 4th of July Iam once again brought to my pas-sion for the new verse for our na-tional anthem. I am here to plantthe seeds and cast them into thewind that we begin to sing a new

    song.

With no intention to dismiss anddiscount the previous rendition, itseems to me that we have come asfar as we can by bombs burstingin air. Here is a verse by StevenLongfellow Fiske. He has namedthe Earth Anthem that uses thesame melody from the traditionalverse. (The melody for the national

anthem is from an old Englishdrinking song. Knowing this, it isthe songs nature the be reincar-nated.)

So any chance you get, practice anew verse to an old song to mani-fest a new meaning. We can beginwith our national anthem. Wishingus a blessed summer full of har-mony, gratitude and consciousinter-dependence. Blessed Be to

    the Highest! Peace, Joy, Love!

    EARTH ANTHEM

Oh say can we seeBy the one light in all

Our Earth to embraceAt the call of all nations

Where our children can playIn a world without war

Where we stand hand in handIn the grace of creation

    Where the rivers run clean

    Through the forests of green

Where the cities stand tallIn the clear skies of freedom

Oh say do our hearts singFor harmony and love forever

On this planet of our birthBlessed with peace on Earth

    Lyrics bySteve Longfellow Fiske

TheNehemiahTeamcontinuesto meet on Saturday morningswhen schedules permit. In the pastmonth (June) we have run the newpower line for the sound systemand aided in the replacement of theduct work under the Sanctuaryfloor.

The power line provides a dedi-

cated circuit free of any outsidedistraction fed off of a 20 ampbreaker that should never be inter-rupted by overload.

The new duct work will allowboth heating/air conditioning unitsto function at full capacity. Prior tothis replacement work, we weredown to 67% of available air flow. This should relieve some of thestrain that had been placed on both

units and will hopefully extendtheir life expectancy - they are bothwell over 20 years in age.

A big thank-you to Jereme An-derson for all his help in paintingthe exterior trim of the Youth Edbuilding and for pressure washingthe entire facility. Those are bothjobs that we head out to do but al-ways get dropped down on the list

    when other things come up.

Things for the future - we stillhave touch-up painting to do in allthree buildings.

We would like to find the time toorganize the shed out back andperhaps haul a bunch of stuff off tothe dump.

Plant some more plants in ourplanter under the Unity sign - it

looks rather bare. One of these years we need tomake the office building a priority. The windows need to be replaced,as doboth doors, and the exteriorneeds a complete paint job. Theporch flooring will need to be up-graded soon and should be doneproperly next time. That's it for now.Thank you - Mike

This World:Perfect Justthe Way it Is!

It has been suggested by certain

high spiritual sources that this lifeis onewhere the greatest, most ef-ficient advancement and changemay take place. Thereason forthis is the lag time between a cer-tain decision (consciously orun-consciously made) and its conse-quences (good or bad) is veryshort. One'skarmic debts or sur-pluses are almost always immedi-ately realized. For thisreasonmany advanced mystics declarethat this world is perfect "just theway itis" with no need for it tochange in any way for it is servingits purpose quitewell.

To see and understand this meansyou now accept what is going onhere and withthis understandingshould come the ability to movebeyond the seeming problemsandugliness and injustice of this worldand into a new way of being whereone may now enjoythe perfectionand beauty of earthlife. Now love, positivity, and selflesshelpfulnessis easy. For it is life helping life toprogress-- to change. Negativityandall other forms of downgradinganother no matter who it is or whatit looks likeis now avoided at allcosts.

Change is what is happening hereand it is why we are here. To no-tice a greatresistance to change inoneself or another means the verypurpose of this life--to remainOPEN (and accepting) to change--is being denied. The only require-ment for fulfilling the purposes ofthis life is to remain open

tochanges in all forms, within andwithout. All else is taken care offor us. Soit is by commitment tosupporting all of life and also bysurrenderingresistance to changethat spiritual knowingness arisesand all else that isneeded for thisearthly journey is divinely pro-vided for.

Loving you just the way youare-- Jereme

Half Year Report 2012What a joy it was to return to youafter being away for the best partof two months and find Unity ofMerced vibrant and thriving! If youmissed the July 1st service youmissed a treat! All kinds of thingshappened while I was away, which

is a very good sign that this spiri-tual community is not dependentupon it's spiritual leader but is trulyself managing. CONGRATULA-TIONS

The air ducts have been replacedso the cooling and heating systemworks as efficiently as possible. The new sound system is installedand the bugs being tweaked out ofit. The outside of the Youth Build-ing is complete and looks wonder-ful. And you bought a new fridgefor the Community Room at a bar-gain price!

These last three items were not inthe grand plan this year so this ishow we have managed it.First the ducts, usually we put$1,200 a year into our CD that isbeing built up for the day the a/cheating units have to be replaced. They are 20 years old! So insteadof saving it this year we spent it onthe a/c heating system in advance.Second the sound system, Ed Be-nes and the musicians brought thisproposal to us and it was too goodan idea and price to miss. Wehadn't used all the money budgeted

for scholarships and we haven't asyet bought into the Unity Brandweb site so for the moment wehave used those monies to pay forthe sound system.Third the fridge was such a bargainwe'll just cover that!

Income this half of year has been$42,979

Expenditure this half of the yearhas been $43,837. Now thatdoesnt mean weve over spent! We had $5,000 carry forward fordevelopment work as well so weare in the black. This year we budgeted $7,500 amonth for 'running' expenses, and

affirmed $8000 or more a month sowe have a balance to earmark fordevelopment in the following year.We have spend our allocated 'de-velopment money' and more thisyear so welookforwardtoamarkedincreaseinincome to en-able us to achieve our plans fornext year.

We are a truly amazing community

as our average attendance this halfyear is 41.42 including the chil-dren. We look forward to our regu-lar attendance being in the 50s.What can you do to help us achievethat?

And what might be on the horizonfor you all?

Spiritual DevelopmentComing up this fall as well as all

Small Group Ministries that serveus so well and our usual outstand-ing Sunday Services we have:-WorldDayofPrayer Sound Songand Silence Service Thursday Sep-tember 13th 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.DayRetreatinYosemiteParkSaturday September 1st or 15thUnityofMercedBirthdayCon-certService Sunday October 29th

We have a scholarshipfund tocover tuition for Spiritual Enlight-enment and Education. Karen istaking advantage of this in Portlandthis summer and there is S.E.E. inthe West July 30th to August 3rd.Details in church or get a brochurefrom [email protected],register at http://see.unitycenter.netor talk to me on Sunday. We prefer

that you to pay your costs up frontand we will reimburse you whenyou get your accreditation, but ifthat is difficult for you we can beflexible. A weeks tuition is about$400.

There are also plans afoot in ourregion for Unity Centers to offer

one SEE class over a weekend. Aweekend of tuition would probablybe $100 to $125. Both options aremuch more economical than goingto the village.

Material DevelopmentIt's quite a list! (not prioritized)

Thetreesandyardbetweensanctuaryandoffice need atten-tion. The fruiting tree on the car

park makes a dreadful mess and weare considering removing and re-placing it with a less messy shadetree. Was this tree a donation doesanyone know? Any ideas as to typeof tree to replace it? The tall pinetree causes no end of problems onthe roof so really needs to comeout and also be replaced. Perhapsit's trunk could be a totem? How-ever it may be protected. Othertrees need to be pruned profession-ally to keep them healthy and thebuildings safe. I am still seeing alabyrinth in this space rather thansoggy grass!

Thecommunityroom needsnew flooring. Carpet doesn't seemto stand up to the wear and tear buta hard wood floor will make it verynoisy unless we combine it withnew drapes for the windows andmaybe decorative tapestry for thewalls. This would deaden thesound but will cost.

YouthEducation needs new in-dustrial strength carpet, rightthrough the building.

Theoffice needs new doublepaned windows and doors, insula-tion and exterior paint. The rampneeds work on it again.
