What are Action Verbs?

The main word in the predicate is the verb.

Most verbs are action verbs. An action verb shows what the subject

does or did. Example:

› The ball flew over the plate.› Jill pitches the ball. › Roberto swings the bat.› Roberto ran to first base.

What is the action verb in each sentence?

People admire Mildred Ella “Babe” Didrikson as an all round athlete.

At sixteen she joined an excellent women’s basketball team.

She scored a hundred points in one game!

During that same period, she won medals as a swimmer.
