Viking trade: The Trading Game
You are a trader in the year 980 AD.
Your aim is to grow rich by trading goods with other places and people.
What to do:
1 Decide where you want to go to buy and sell goods.
2 Now decide what you are going to sell and what you want to buy. What will make
you rich? What do people want to buy in the place you’re going to?
3 Draw the goods you are going to take with you to sell, and decide how much
they’re worth (in weight of silver, or in exchange for other goods).
4 Plan your journey. Will you travel by ship, skates, sledge, or waggon and horse?
Rules:
You can exchange goods with someone else by doing a straight swap.
OR
You can use coins - but only for their weight. You could also use lumps of silver, or
silver and gold jewellery. It’s the weight of the metal that counts.
The winners will be the team that has increased its wealth the most.
