Daar is vir ongeveer twee maandereeds agterstande met die uitreik vanrybewys-kaarte in Bellville en Brac-

kenfell.Só het die Stad Kaapstad bevestig in ant-

woord op ’n medianavraag.Die gesloer is die oorsaak van die die ver-

stryking van die kontrak tussen die ver-voerdepartement en sy voormalige diens-verskaffer, Prodiba.

In sy plek het Drivers Licence Card Ac-count (DLCA), ’n sub-afdeling van die Stadse vervoerdepartement, oorgeneem om diekaarte te produseer.

“As gevolg van die skuif na die nuwemaatskappy het dit veroorsaak dat diémaatskappy tans met ’n agterstand sit watdie hele land affekteer en nie net die StadKaapstad nie. Ons by die Brackenfell-toets-sentrum wag nog in spanning en het noggeen kaarte ontvang nie.”

Die Stad se JP Smith, burgemeestersko-miteelid vir veiligheid en sekuriteit, het na-mens die Stad amptelik só kommentaar ge-lewer:

“Alle rybewystoetssentrums, behalwedie Brackenfell- en Bellrail-sentrums, hetreeds sommige van die kaarte ontvang watgedurende April en Mei 2015 bestel is.

“Die departement van vervoer, met sysub-afdeling, die DLCA, is nou verantwoor-delik vir die produksie van rybewyse.

“Hulle het ons verseker dat die omswaai-tyd vir die uitreik van kaarte ongeveer 21dae sal wees vanaf Augustus.”

A gaming party in De Bron came to an ab-rupt end when three armed men in balacla-vas gatecrashed the event and ran off withall the electronics.

The men gained access through an un-locked back door around 01:00 and sur-prised the seven gamers, who are in their20s, in an upstairs TV room. “They threat-ened them with a knife and crowbar. Theytook seven cell phones, one iPad, one lap-top, cash, an Xbox and a game,” Fisher says.

R43 miljoen uit die sak gejaag.“Die opening van die pad is met sowat

twee maande uitgestel as gevolg van aan-houdende kabeldiefstal. Die kragboks watdie verkeersligte voer moes uiteindelik op’n paal van ses meter gemonteer word,” sêFourie.Hy meen plaaslike gemeenskappe wag al

lank vir die pad wat groot verligting gaanbring aan motoriste.“Dit bied vrye deurgang tot die N1 en sal

die druk verlig op ander paaiewat Bracken-fell-boulevard en die Klipheuwel-pad in-sluit,” sê hy.Verder sal die pad ook dien as ’n verbinte-

nisroete met die Weskus.Sydney Cloete, ’n verkeersontleder van

van die verkeersligte verkeersopeenho-pings op die pad voorkom.“Die verkeersvloei op die pad sal deuren-

tyd gemonitor word en verstel word indiennodig,” sê hy.Fourie meen dat daar sowat 300 tot 400

motors per uur op die pad verwag word ty-dens die eerste weke na die opening.Die sakevrouLatifaAshtiker is veral ver-

heug.Sy besit ’n vulstasie by die nuwe aanslui-

ting en hoop dat die nuwe pad baie meerklante sal lok.Fourie sê daar is veral tans ’n groot be-

I took my daughter to see theDisney on Ice show at theGrandwest casino. I thought itwas a great show last year, sodecided to spend the money andbuy tickets once again. Theshow was amazing but I wasshocked beyond belief at theprices of the items on sale. Ihave no problem spendingmoney and treating my kids,but it was an absolute rip off tobe charged that extremeamount of money for items.

The popcorn that was for salewas in a blue plastic bag andwas selling for ... hold yourbreath ... R90 each – I told thegentlemen that I did not wantto buy the whole machine.

Then over to the candyfloss,well that again was R90 each,so I decided to leave it andmaybe buy us a drink. Wellthere goes that idea, the SlushPuppies in a plastic cup (whichwas very beautiful) was sellingfor R90 each.

So to buy your kids threeitems, of which the Slush was250ml came to R270 + the costof the cheapest ticket at R170 =R440. This was for one child fora show that was 45 mins firsthalf and 30 mins second half –and they say perfect childrenentertainment for the schoolholiday – Yes good entertain-ment but a total rip off!

I feel these prices are totallyunacceptable and was wonde-ring if this was school holidayentertainment or a get richquick idea from the casino.

All in all I am still shockedat these prices and will certain-ly do my utmost to ensure thatpeople are aware of this beforethey buy tickets for next year’sshow.

Just as a matter of interest Ilooked at the Toy Story figuresthey were also selling and theywere R170/R220 – I went toToys R Us to price them andthey have exactly the sameitems and they are between R70and R120.

Ingevolge artikel 49(1)(a)(i) van die Wet op Plaaslike Regering: Munisipale Eiendomsbelasting, Wet 6 of 2004, hierna die “Wet” genoem, worddaar hiermee kennis gegee dat die sewende aanvullende waardasielys (SV07) van die 2012- algemene waardasielys vir die 2015/16-boekjaarvanaf 21 Julie 2015 tot 31 Augstus 2015 vir die publiek by die lokale hieronder ter insae lê. Die vorms vir die indiening van besware is by hierdielokale beskikbaar. Die waardasielys is ook vanaf 21 Julie 2015 op die Raad se webwerf beskikbaar (adres hieronder).

Eiendomme word ingevolge artikel 78(1) van die Wet op die sewende aanvullende waardasielys (SV07) van die 2012- algemene waardasielysgeplaas indien dit: a) foutiewelik uit die waardasielys gelaat is; b) na die laaste algemene waardasie by die munisipaliteit ingesluit is; c) na dielaaste algemene waardasie onderverdeel of gekonsolideer is; d) ’n wesenlike toename of vermindering in markwaarde ondergaan het sedertdie laaste algemene waardasie; e) in die laaste algemene waardasie aansienlik verkeerd gewaardeer is; f) om enige ander buitengewone redeherwaardeer moet word; g) waarvan die kategorie verander het.

Ingevolge artikel 49(1)(a)(ii) van die Wet kan enige eiendomsbesitter of ander persoon wat wil binne die gemelde tydperk ’n beswaar bydie munisipale bestuurder indien oor enige saak wat op die waardasielys verskyn of daaruit weggelaat is. Besware kan slegs ten opsigte vaneiendomme wat op die SV07-lys gewaardeer is, ingedien word. Die eienaars van hierdie eiendomme sal skriftelik van hul SV07-waardasies inkennis gestel word by die posadres wat tans op die Stad se databasis is.

Aandag word spesifiek gevestig op die feit dat ’n beswaar ingevolge artikel 50(2) van die Wet met ’n spesifieke, individuele eiendom verbandmoet hou en nie teen die aanvullende waardasielys as ’n geheel ingedien kan word nie. Die vorms vir die indiening van besware is by die lokalehieronder genoem beskikbaar en kan van die webwerf afgelaai word. ’n Afsonderlike beswaarvorm moet vir elke eiendom ingevul word.

The family DeWit of Hoogeberg Farm inDurbanville dreamt about takingwine-making further and offering a holistic

family experience on theirhistorical proper-ty.For this reason, fifth-generation owner

MJ de Wit and wife, Estani, dedicated theirtime to realising this dream after they tookover management ofthe farm and winery in2010.“We’ve been dream-

ing about this projectfor years and to finallysee it all come together,makes one believe thatmiracles do happen,”MJ said.Last Wednesday the

family fired their 300-year-old cannon to un-derscore their readi-ness to operate as a ful-ly functionalhospitality, tourist andfamily venue.Selected guests were

introduced to their sig-nature wines and hand-crafted beer range(HoogebergCraftBeer),and offered (several)tastes of their authenticDurbanville hospitali-ty.They produce about 6 500 cases of wine a

year and their first wine under the SignalGun label was made by MJ in 2006 as a hob-by.

The farm has its own restaurant, Ke-Mo-nate, meaning “dis lekker”, or “that’s nice”in Sotho – a small tribute to MJ’s mother El-mi’s childhood years, and her ability tospeak fluent Sotho.MJ said the vineyards surrounding Ke-

The SPCA in Grassy Park invites locals tocome spend their 67 minutes on MandelaDay (Saturday 18 July) by helping animalsin need.

“If you haven’t yet thought about yourplan of action for this year’s Mandela Day,the SPCA has just the plan for you,” saysWanika Davids, spokesperson for the Capeof Good Hope SPCA.

“Because 18 July falls on a Saturday thisyear, the SPCA is inviting you to spend yo-ur 67 minutes with them on either Friday17 or Saturday 18 July,” she adds.

People interested can join thewelfare or-ganisation between 08:30 and 12:30 on eit-her day.

Tasks to be done, include repairing holesin the ceiling, replace or repair doors, doorhandles, sand and varnishing the bench inthe garden as well as painting the ward ofthe animal hospital.

People will also be able to assist with fit-ting shelving in the store room, replace tapwashers andhelp increase the height of thedripwires in all four isolationwards,Wan-ika says.

Animal pens, kennels and cages, the sto-re rooms, paddocks, farmyard and catteryneeds cleaning too.

Animal lovers will also be afforded theopportunity to walk some of the dogs, aswell as help with much needed grooming,the SPCA says.

Rameez Cassiem grew up in the Bo-Kaapand started off by repurposing old denimjeans to make bags and skirts. Despite a di-sease which affects his nerves and limitsmuscle use, Rameez’s clothing featureshand-painted designs.

The fashion week will take place from 26to 28 August and the fashion show, whereRameez’s designs will take centre stage,will be held at the library at 15:00 on Friday28 August. The event aims to promote yo-ung, up and coming designers and entre-preneurs and promises to be an explosionof colour and creative talent.

· Maintain daily registers and controls· Prepare and capture journals and transactions· Notify superior of any suspicious or potentially

fraudulent payments· Prepare and complete reconciliations of customer

accounts· Verify and follow up on invoices, statements and

· Manage team members in such a way that they aremotivated, energized and empowered; Coach, shareknowledge and mentor more junior employees

highest ever amount of senior youthplay-er representation at provincial level withfour representatives in theu-17 age-groupand a further three representatives in theu-19 age-group, with Chesterhouse beingthe only high school in the northern sub-urbs receiving multiple representation.Over the past few seasons Chester-

house has become a formidable force in

cricket, progressing to a top four finishin the WPNS u-19A cricket league for thesecond season in a row, and the only highschool to have reached the semi-finals inboth the league and T30 knockout compe-titions for the 2015 season. What makesit so remarkable is that Chesterhouse asan academic institution with a numbersratio of around 10-15% compared to larg-er traditional sporting schools of thenorth, is able tomeasureupwith such im-pressive cricket results. ered to contest this year’s South AfricanOpen Chess Festival.The event was supported by theWestern

Cape department of cultural affairs andsport.Advocate Lyndon Bouah, chief director

of sport and recreation, says: “In develop-ing a winning nation it is important to im-prove international sports successes bysupporting events at all levels.“Achieving an active and winning na-

tion is underpinned by an enabling envi-ronment.“The staging of this event at the Cape

Sun is part of our campaign to bring bigsport events to the Western Cape.”South Africa’s first ever grandmaster,

KennySolomon,markedhis return to com-petition on South African soil, which wasalso his first tournament onhome soil afterofficially receiving the title of grandmasterearlier this year.Solomon, originally from Mitchell’s

Plain and a previous winner of the tourna-ment, placed fourth in this year’s tourna-ment with a score of 8.5.“It was a tough tournament with a lot of

strong players. I am happy that we wereable to have four grandmasters participat-ing this year,” he says.“It is important that foreign grandmas-

ters participate in South African chessevents – this is how chess can grow in ourcountry.”The tournament also incorporated the

SA schools individual chess champion-ship. The championship saw some of thebest junior players in the country come upagainst each other.Former national junior team coach Cal-

vin Klaasen believes young players havean opportunity to make a career of thegame if the support shown at the SA Opencontinues to grow.

“It’s important foryoung players to identifywith heroes, to havesomething to strive for.“There are limited op-

portunities for youngplayers in SouthAfrica toprogress to a professionallevel at the moment, butthat can change if we aresupported correctly. Ken-ny’s grandmaster title isjust step one in South Af-rica becoming a powerfulchess country,” he says.Solomon, who now

lives in Italy, believesevents of this nature needto happen more often ifwe are to produce moreinternational-grade play-ers.“Chess events like these help people

build connections as we were there com-peting for over a week, so apart from theplaying there is also thepost-gameanalysisand it’s in these sessions where chess play-ers can take the opportunity to learn evenmore,” he says.English chess legend grandmaster Nigel

Short emerged victorious at the end of the11-round event. He gained the title basedon a tie-break system, after ending on ninepoints alongside grandmaster AleksaStrikovic from Serbia and India’s grand-master Abhijit Kunte.Short has been playing with the best

since he became a grandmaster at age 19.He was regularly placed in the top ten inthe world between the late 1980s and late1990s.He became the first English player to

play for the World Chess Championship ti-tlewhenheplayed againstGarryKasparovin 1993.Solomon will next travel to Gauteng

along with Short to play in a qualifier forone of the biggest chess tournaments in theworld taking place in Las Vegas.

The inaugural Cape Town Cup will setthe Mother City alight with two inter-national teams set to challenge two

PSL teams in a two day double header foot-ball extravaganza.

The City of Cape Town has announcedthat the Cape Town Cup soccer tournamentwill see host team Ajax Cape Town welcomePortuguese team Sporting Club de Portugalas well as Crystal Palace FC and SuperSportUnited at the Cape Town Stadium on 24 and26 July.

The first game on Friday, which kicks offat 17:45, will see SuperSport United FC tak-ing on Crystal Palace.

Following shortly after this at 20:15 willsee Ajax Cape Town and Sporting go head

to head. Sunday’s action will start at 13:00with the losers of Friday’s double headerschallenging each other.

The final, at 15:30, will be contested be-tween the winners of the games played onFriday.

There will be a penalty shoot-out to decidethe champion, should there be a tie afterregulation time.

Ari Efstathiou, Ajax Cape Town CEO saysAjax Cape Town is privileged to host Sport-ing, Crystal Palace and SuperSport Unitedfor the inaugural Cape Town Cup.

“As a club, we continue to be leaders inthe football industry and hosting clubs ofthis calibre is a start of a great future forthe Cape Town Cup,” he said.
