Twenty-Third Sunday of the Year
September 5, 2021
We invite all new members of our parish community to register at the Parish Office.
Celebration of the Eucharist
Weekday (Monday to Friday and First Saturday) at 9:30 a.m.
Saturday at 4:00 p.m., Sunday at 9:15 a.m.
(Live Streamed at “StMarkShoreham” on YouTube) and 11:45 a.m.
Becoming a Catholic or Adult Confirmation
Are you interested in becoming Catholic? Were you never Confirmed and now
find that you would like to complete your Sacraments of Initiation? Are you
interested in finding out more about the Catholic faith? If you answered “Yes”
to any of these questions, then Faith Formation is for you! Call the Parish Cen-
ter for more information.
Baptism
Baptisms are celebrated on the third Saturday of the month at 1:00 p.m.
Parents are encouraged to register for the baptism before the birth of your
child so that it is easier to attend the required Baptism Preparation Class.
Please call the Parish Office and we will be happy to set up an appointment.
Many parents also use this opportunity to register in the Parish as a new pa-
rishioner.
Marriage
We are happy to arrange for your wedding. First, we have the marriage inter-
view and then we can set the date for the wedding. More information is avail-
able on the website. Please call the Parish Office for an appointment and we
will be happy to help you!
Reconciliation
The Sacrament of Penance is celebrated on Saturday, 3:00—3:45 p.m. You may
also call the Parish Office to make an appointment with one of the parish priests.
Calling all teens!
The parishes of St. John the Baptist and St. Mark are looking for teens who would like to
help out in both parishes. We know you need service hours for many things (Confirmation,
National Honor Society, Junior National Honor Society, Scouts, college applications) and we
would love for you to be involved in parish life.
Every year we need help with big projects like the Thanksgiving and Christmas drives work-
ing with Outreach; but we also can offer other opportunities. Young folks can be lectors, Eucharistic Ministers,
choir members, altar servers, and ushers. You can also serve as helpers and instructors in religious formation.
We also could use help in smaller parish projects, such as helping with facilities: matching keys with doors at St.
Mark, pruning overgrown shrubs, mulching, spring and fall clean-ups, painting, holiday decorating, etc. We also
hope to create programs for teens to work with seniors and the needy. We would welcome individuals or
groups of friends wanting to work together. And we hope to offer prayer and retreat opportunities, as well as
social events.
If interested, please contact
Dr. Jeff Pedersen at [email protected].
We look forward to serving with you!
Next Saturday,
September 11, 2021, is the Twentieth
Anniversary of the 9/11 Attack.
Please keep in your prayers the victims,
their families and the first responders.
St. Mark’s Parish
Outreach
Thank you for your generous
support of our School Drive.
This year was “bigger” than
ever.
We will be helping needy
children in our parish and
community,
and also sharing the supplies
with the local schools
who are also aware of children in
in need.
Outreach Requests
This weekend is Food Donation Weekend. Our pantry is in
need of all non-perishable items.
Thank you for your continued generosity!
2021 Girl Scout Project Update: Torre Parrinello
Over the past 8 months, Torre Parrinello refurbished the gar-dens that we pass each week on our way from the parking lot to church as part of earning her Girl Scout Gold Award. She gives special thanks to Fa-ther Frank for his guidance and support along with Father Len (who she talked with at the be-ginning of the project).
The refurbishment included planting daffodil and crocus bulbs that bloomed this past spring (that she hopes the deer will not eat!); cleaning up the gardens and statues; and scrap-ing and repainting the pealing benches. In addition, approxi-mately 500 rocks were collect-ed, cleaned and painted, many with inspirational words.
Especially during the pandemic, she hopes this project will give us all a little outdoor space where we can pray, enjoy nature, be inspired and inspire others. If anyone would like to add inspiration-al rocks to the gardens, please feel free to be creative (and be sure to use acryl-ic paints with a clear polyurethane coat to help preserve them). Torre said she counts herself extremely blessed to be a part of such a wonderful Parish and faith-filled community.
As summer draws to a close
over the next weeks of
August, the parish family
looks at the future and
developing a Pastoral Plan for
the parish.
The Pastoral Council has met twice during the summer
and will reconvene in September. The Council’s main
responsibility is to assist the pastor in listening to the
needs of the parish and Pastoral Planning.
Feel free to speak with the members of the Council
and share your hopes for the future of our parish!

Registration for 2021-2022 Now Underway!
Registration Forms Available on the Website (under “Faith Formation”!)
Our Faith Formation registration for the 2021-22 Catechetical year is underway. All current families, and any new families who have contacted the Faith Formation Office, have been sent the registration forms. A mailing just went out to families whose children were baptized in our parish six years ago, and would now be ready to begin the two years of preparation to receive the sacraments of Reconciliation and the Eucharist. We welcome anyone new to our parish and any families whose children will be entering first grade in September. Please contact the Faith Formation Office to obtain the necessary information at [email protected] or 631 821-0550. Faith Formation registration fees and sacrament offerings for First Eucharist and Confirmation can be paid on our secure website: stmarkshoreham.org We are always happy to hear from everyone and assist them in any way that we can. We are looking forward to welcoming the children and teens when our Faith Formation classes begin the week of September 19. Our gratitude is extended to the families who have already registered and have chosen the class time, which best fits their family's schedule. If any family has not as yet had a chance to do so, registration can be completed on our parish website. Our parish is truly blessed to have many ded-icated Catechists, who so generously share their faith and gifts with the children and teens. Our ministry is always open to any parishioners who may feel called to be a Catechist by teaching or being an assis-tant for a weekly class. To discuss the possibility and find out more about being a part of passing on our faith to the young people of our parish, please contact the Faith Formation Office.
Are you new to the parish of St. Mark?
Do you have a child (or grandchild) going into First Grade? We invite any families whose children will be entering first grade in September to register their children for our Faith For-
mation classes. Children prepare to receive the sacraments of Reconciliation and the Eucharist over two years by participat-
ing in our Levels 1 and 2.
To register your child please go to our website: stmarkshoreham.org where you will find the registration forms, and also
where you can complete your registration by paying the fee under online giving.
Please contact the Faith Formation Office at [email protected] or 631 821-0550 with any questions. We invite all parish-
ioners to spread the word to any families you know whose children will begin first grade in September.
Feel free to spread the word to your neighbors!

ST. MARK’S KIOSK MINISTRY
Here we are – in the first week of September. Although we look at our calendar and see 30 days in September and we have days marked for one thing or the other, today and everyday is a special gift from God. We are all called to cherish each day. It’s very easy to take for granted today and the days ahead. We were all caught unguarded 20 years ago on 9/11, as well as last March 2020 when Covid-19 changed most of our ways of living. Our Lord has warned us many times in the scriptures to BE PREPARED. How prepared are you?
When we pray and grow in our faith each day, it can prepare us for whatever lies ahead and
we can learn to embrace the gift of each day. Our kiosk is a means to learn to pray and to keep our faith growing. Give yourself some extra time before or after Mass to look over some of the ti-tles of the booklets, books and cds on our kiosk that may make a difference in your day.
Hymnal Drive Update
All of our 550 hymnals and 40 choir hymnals are memorialized.
THANK YOU to those who have also contributed to the Drive so we
can meet all our expenses.
Next week we will publish the final financial report for the Drive.
