Even old people are influenced by Tupac!
In May 1985, Tipper Gore helped to create the Parents' Music Resource Center. Its
board of directors consisted of 17 "Washington Wives",
married to senators, congressmen and Cabinet
officials. Their objective was to educate and inform parents of “the alarming trend towards
lyrics that are violent and sexually explicit,” by allowing
stricter enforcement of obscenity laws.
AKA CENSORSHIP!
President George Bush
denounced Ice-T’s song Cop
Killer and any record company
that would release such a product. His
Vice President Dan Quayle
described Cop Killer as
“obscene trash.”
Rap music has always been a
popular target for politicians because of its depiction of
controversial subjects such as
sex, crime, politics, and the economic position of their
community.
