methods to give and make grants. These include:
• formal application processes
• trustees identifying causes to support
• informal nurturing and stewardship
• direct involvement with projects
• The largest foundations tend to be grant-makers with a formal application process

• Remember you are building a relationship. Look after and nurture your relationship with foundations which align with your work
• ‘Warm’ applications have a much better chance of success
• If you are looking to secure money from a foundation, research who they have given to in the past and the amount of money they have given
• If you are invited to submit an application, this puts you in a very strong position
