SPX FLOW Trunnion Mounted Ball ValveSPX FLOW, Inc. offers both a two piece and a three piece bolted body design
trunnion mounted ball valve with either an external or internal trunnion bearing.
This ball valve provides an attractive and cost effective solution for bubble-tight
shut off requirements in many oil and gas applications.
PROD UCT B E N E FITS AN D FEATU R E S:
Two and Three Piece Bolted Body
The SPX FLOW ball valve offers both a two piece and a three piece bolted
body design. The external and internal trunnion bearings reduce the sealing
forces and associated high torque, as well as the seat wear of fl oating ball valve
designs.
Trunnion Mounted Ball
The trunnions are precisely fi tted to the ball and TFE lined bearing connected to
the body. The bearings absorb the side load generated by pressure acting on the
ball. This design feature provides consistent torque and the exact location and
support of the ball.
Double Block and Bleed
The valve possesses double block and bleed capability where the body cavity
can be vented with the ball in the fully open or closed position. Vent fi ttings in
the upper body and a combination vent / drain fi tting in the bottom of the body
provides this functionality.
Positive Stem Sealing Using Multiple Seals
The SPX FLOW ball valve standard stem seal design uses three seals to ensure
a positive seal. The primary stem seal is fi re-safe graphite packing. Additionally,
two additional elastomer o-ring seals above the primary seal are used.
Emergency Seat Sealant Injection
Under standard operating conditions the SPX FLOW ball valve does not require
any lubrication or routine maintenance. However, in the event the seat seal is
damaged during operation, an emergency sealant injection system is provided as
a standard on all valves. Sealant can be injected directly to the seat sealing area
to effect a temporary emergency seal.
Anti-static Continuity for all Components
The SPX FLOW ball valve is designed to provide electrical continuity of all valve
components to prevent the buildup of a static charge on internal components.
Electrical continuity between parts such as the body and ball is ensured
using springs.
Meets API 6D
The through conduit full bore API 6D design assures unrestricted fl ow
and allows both pigging and hot tapping (full bore valves only).

Typical product applications
3
Theory of OperationThe SPX FLOW ball valve provides both a cast body 2-piece
design and a forged body 3-piece design (in class 600 and
higher pressures) bolted body trunnion mounted design for those
hydrocarbon gas and liquid applications requiring bubble-tight
shutoff, fi re-safe construction and API 6D certifi cation. Standard
features include a positively retained stem, double block and bleed
capability, anti-static
design, and a standard seat sealant vent and drain feature. The
SPX FLOW ball valve is designed to provide ease of operation,
low torque, and extended seal life and is available in both full and
reduced bore design. The through conduit full bore API 6D design
assures unrestricted fl ow and accommodates both pigging and hot
tapping. All SPX FLOW ball valves are bi-directional and may be
installed
for fl ow in either direction. They are intended for use in horizontal
or vertical pipelines with the valve stem in any confi guration.
The trunnion mounted design maintains the ball in an exact, fi xed
position supported by the trunnions. Bearings absorb the side
load created by pressure acting on the ball. The seat rings fl oat
in the seat pocket and sealing force is generated both by springs
and line pressure. The valve has double block and bleed capability
in both open and closed position. Cycle tested under the most
severe conditions to provide long service life under the toughest
conditions, in both high and low and varying pressure and fl ow
conditions.

This seat design provides excellent sealing capability at
both high and low differential pressures.
The springs are used to provide an additional mechanical
load to energize the seats under low pressure. Wave
springs are used in valve sizes 2" through 4" Class 150 &
300 also 2" Class 900 & 1500 while coil springs are used
in all other sizes and pressure classes. For low pressure
service the springs provide a uniform mechanical force
exerted around the entire sealing surface of the seats as
they are pressed against the ball. Coil springs are closely
spaced around the seat ring in a special groove that allows
compression of the springs. These springs are kept evenly
spaced by a specially designed stainless steel band which
also helps to protect the springs during installation and
maintenance. Even spacing of the springs provides a
uniform load of the seats on the ball.
Fluid and pressure are prevented from leaking past the
seat ring by tail O-Ring seals. This tail O-Ring also acts as
a piston seal allowing the seat ring to become pressure
energized.
E M E RG E NCY S EAT S EAL
Under standard operating conditions the M&J ball valve
does not require any lubrication or routine maintenance.
However, in the event the seat seal is damaged during
operation, an emergency sealant injection system is
standard on all valves. Sealant can be injected directly to
the seat sealing area to affect a temporary emergency
seal. If valves are to be buried, or are located in an
inaccessible location, the grease sealant fi ttings can be
extended per customer requirements.

ANTI-B LOWOUT STE M D E S IG N AN D STE M S EAL
A positively retained anti-blowout stem is standard on all SPX FLOW
ball valves. This feature allows the top works to be removed with the
valve under pressure.
The standard stem seal design utilizes three seals to ensure stem seal
integrity. The primary seal is a backseated design using reinforced TFE.
This seal is combined with a secondary inner seal and an externally
replaceable outer seal. A port with a check fi tting is provided between
the inner and outer seals. This port allows seal integrity testing and
venting prior to outer seal removal and replacement.
TR U N N ION D E S IG N
The M&J ball valve is a trunnion mounted design. The trunnions are fi tted into TFE lined bearing blocks supported within the valve body.
The trunnions are an integral part of the ball and precisely locate and support the ball while ensuring low, consistent torque.
DOU B LE B LOCK AN D B LE E D FEATU R E
The M&J ball valve is designed to allow for double block and bleed. The body cavity can be vented with the ball in either the full-open
or full-closed position. This is possible with pressure on either or both the upstream or downstream sides of the valve. The valve body
is furnished with a vent fi tting located in the upper half of the body center section. There is a pipe plug in the bottom of the body for
draining.
FI R E TE ST QUALI FICATION S
The SPX FLOW ball valve has been designed to comply with international standards. This includes fi re testing per ISO 10497.
Fire test qualifi ed design and certifi cation can be provided when specifi ed.
VALVE BODY PR E SSU R E R E LI E F
When the SPX FLOW ball valve is in service, the fl ow media can be isolated and contained within the body cavity when the valve is closed.
During this time, the fl ow media can expand and contract due to temperature variations. Thus, as the temperature rises, the fl uid expands,
increasing the pressure in the body cavity. In order to avoid over-pressuring the body cavity, the M&J ball valve seats are designed to self
relieve the over-pressure, allowing the fl ow media to vent through the seat into the pipeline. This self-relieving feature is standard on all
M&J ball valves.
VALVE E N D CON N ECTION S
The SPX FLOW ball valve can be supplied with a variety of end connections including RTJ and Raised Face fl anged end, weld end, or
fl anged by weld end. Standard face to face dimensions are per API-6D. End fl anges are supplied to meet B16.5, B16.47 Type A, or MSS-
SP44 depending on valve size.
SPX FLOW ball valves standard weld end on carbon steel body valves made from either A216 WCB or ASTM A105 having a specifi ed
minimum yield strength (SMYS) of 36,000 psi. This material can be fi eld welded and matches the material of most common fl anges.
The standard weld preparation is bored to match the specifi ed mating pipe. The bevel thickness is 1.5 times the mating pipe thickness
allowing direct welding to mating pipe having a SMYS of 52,000 psi or less. Welding to higher strength pipe may require transition pieces
(pups) or a change in specifi cation of the valve end material.
Consult SPX FLOW for special end connections on M&J Valve products including fl anges and weld ends to match your requirements.

Other M&J Valve Branded ProductsEXPANDING GATE VALVES
The M&J Model EG valves are full-bore
through-conduit valves with rising stem,
parallel expanding gate and segment for
tight mechanical seal and positive shut-off,
both upstream and downstream, under both
low and high differential pressure. This valve
provides a superior bidirectional mechanical
seal because the two-piece gate assembly
expands against the seating areas in
open or closed position. The greater the
torque, the tighter the seal. The result is
an extremely heat-resistant seal, unaffected
by line pressure or vibration.
Key Features
• Increased throughput full-bore
unrestricted fl ow
• Tight seal in all fl ow conditions;
bi-directional mechanical sealing
• Can replace two valves; double block
and bleed capability
• Long, leak-free service life; protected
seat design
• Easy to operate and maintain
• Sizes 2" and larger in all ANSI classes
COMPACT EXPANDING
GATE VALVE
The M&J Model CEG valves are full- or
reduced-opening, non-through-conduit
valves with rising stem, parallel expanding
gate and segment for tight mechanical
seal and positive shut-off, both upstream
and downstream, under both low and high
differential pressure. This design has proven
performance in applications worldwide,
such as isolation valves in power plants,
ESD valves in production, block valves
in process systems, high-temperature
valves in refi neries, and pipeline valves
in critical areas.
Key Features
• Superior sealability through use of
two-piece parallel expanding gate
• Double block and bleed
• Traps pressure in body cavity
when in closed position
• Pressure gauge seating; long seat life
• Stem seal’s chevron rings ensure
sealing integrity
• In-line maintenance
• Sizes 4" and larger, Classes 150 and 300
DANFLO SURGE
RELIEF VALVES
DANFLO surge relief valves are engineered
to track unabated surge (wave pressure
transients), open quickly and then close
without slamming shut. The “speed of
response” in surge valves is defi ned as
the valve’s ability to relieve peak wave
surge fl ow in the time stated in a hydraulic
transient surge analysis. Although this
time varies with each application, timed
responses of 100 milliseconds or less are
not unusual. DANFLO surge relief valves
meet these criteria.
Key Features
• High fl ow capacities (Cv) achieve required
surge protection with smaller and/or
fewer valves, saving both installation
cost and weight
• Fast response — rapid opening/closing
without slamming shut — enables
tracking of the surge
• Additional reserve fl ow capacity
accommodates unforeseen transient
surge fl ow
• Set pressure test port to meet DOT
periodic-testing requirements
