Most of us are familiar with John 3:16, “God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life.” The Trinity is divine relational love among three united but distinct persons. The Trinity reveals who we are called to be as people of God. We are called into a loving relationship with God and one another. The Trinity desires to save through restored relationship, which is salvation. Which are the relationships in our life that need work? (Diocese of Austin, “The Friday Epistle,” May 26, 2017)

There are several popular legends about how St. Patrick used the shamrock to explain the mystery of the Trinity. According to one story, St. Patrick went to Connaught where he met two of King Laoghaire’s daughters, Ethne and Fedelm. St. Patrick had been unable to persuade the king to convert, but he convinced the king’s daughters. During their time of instruction St. Patrick used a shamrock to visualize the mystery of the Trinity, how a single plant with three leaves is analogous to the one Triune God with three separate and distinct Persons (Thurston, H. J., ed., Butler’s Lives of the Saints, Vol. 1, 615). (Taken from www.catholichotdish.com)

Bishop Vásquez’ Prayer Request: For our parish community, that we might exemplify the loving relationship of the Holy Trinity by our own loving relationship with one another and especially with those we find difficult to love.
