Since October is PACKED with weekend activities, I encourage

you, your friends and family to grab a rake and help keep our playgrounds free of tree droppings during any time you can share with us. You can pile the tree droppings outside the playground fence and we will move the piles at one time. It’s important that we keep the playgrounds safe and up to state standards. Any and all pine cone and trash pick-ups will be greatly appreciated. So please schedule some time this fall to join us in this neighborly fun and fitness oriented mission.

~ Calling All Men of Trinity ~ Our next breakfast is scheduled for Sunday, October 5th at 8:00 AM!

The attendance at our first breakfast of the fall was good, but not great. I guess Men’s Breakfast doesn’t have a higher priority than some football games or the bed was too comfortable. Hope to see those folks in October. The program for the morning was very enlightening. We learned a little about the beginning of Christianity in Scotland. We learned that the Celtic monks were a nomadic group. It was a lot of information to digest (along with our super breakfast) in a short period of time. It was good to enjoy the food and fellowship of Men’s Breakfast after our summer vacation. Looking forward to October. Hope the attendance is a little better. It is still the best breakfast in Scotland County and the cost is only $5.00. First-timers are free, so come on out! Carl Orndoff

Presbyterian Women’s Circles Circle of Seekers

Our study of 2 Corinthians has begun. We were asked to read 1 Corinthians for background information. Now, we’ll delve into Reconciling Paul’s conflicting statements of submission and shared partnership in our study of 2 Corinthians. REMEMBER to wear orange on the 25th of each month to promote the worldwide effort to Stop Violence against Women and Children (we have many church members with orange apparel!) We will gather at 7pm in the fellowship hall on Monday, October 6th for bible study, prayer, fellowship and refreshment. Let us know if you need a ride or any other assistance. We will collect $5 each month for PW missions - local and worldwide. ~ Barbara Barnas & Denise Cummings

Sisterhood Luncheon We will be having our next Sisterhood lunch together on Monday, October 20th at 1pm at Jerry’s Deli. Hope to see you there!

Thank you! Thanks to your support, Trinity’s 2014 Relay for Life team raised $932 - as of press time! Thanks to the many donors and participants for your

ongoing support of the American Cancer Society and Scotland County’s Relay for Life event.

From the desk of Pastor Becky “And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the ages.” (Matthew 28:18-20) We hear these words often. We hear them when we have new members join the church. We hear them when there is a baptism. We hear them through scripture readings and other big events. We hear them, but do we really listen to them. This passage comes as Jesus is preparing to ascend into heaven. He has lived his 33 years of life as God and man- living the incarnation to the fullest, dwelling with us in our sin and misery and loving us too much to leave us there. So Jesus took that sin on himself, he took it to the cross and died an agonizing and gruesome death so that we didn’t have to anymore. He then spent three days in hell, defeating the grave and sin to its fullest. And then he rose and continued to instruct us, guide us and love us. Now it is time for him to ascend to the Father and Jesus tells us that we will not be alone. He is still with us through the power of the Holy Spirit. And with that comes a call for all of us. A call and commission to live life like Jesus, to follow him in all things and to share him in all ways. And that call is the Great Commission. We are called to go out and make disciples of all nations. Not just the people who look like us. Not just the people who walk through our doors as visitors. Not just those who can help us make our budget. And not just those who have lived perfect lives. All are welcome and Jesus is telling us to go to them and tell them about who our Triune God is, and all that goes along with that. We are called to follow Jesus who went to the people where there was a need. We are to go to them where they are and share God’s love with them. We are not supposed to wait for them to come to us, but we are to be talking to our neighbors, friends, and colleagues. We are to be going to the schools, colleges, to the retirement homes, to the streets and offering God’s love in all ways that we can. These words, when we truly listen and hear them, are a heavy commitment and are a lot to take on. But it is God’s call and can help us to bring the Kingdom of God that much closer to reality. This is our call as agents of hope. This is our call as disciples. This is our call from the one who loved us so much that He gave his only Son for us. Are we willing to live that life for him? Are we willing to answer that call? So friends, hear God’s word and “Go and make disciples of all nations…” and that includes all of Scotland County. It won’t be easy but nothing worthwhile in life ever is and thanks be to God for that! So let’s live into the Great Commission and remember that with God - all things are possible! Blessings and Love, Pastor Becky

Love makes good impressions

You can tell a lot about the state of a couple’s relationship from the way they greet one another. You can see it in their expression and countenance, as well as how they speak to each other. It is even more obvious by their physical contact. But how much importance should you give a greeting? The Bible has more to say about greetings that you might expect. The apostle Paul took time to encourage his readers to greet one another warmly. It’s not just about your friends, however. Jesus noted in His Sermon on the Mount that even pagans speak kindly to people they like. That’s easy for anyone to do. But He took it a step further and said that being godly included being humble and gracious enough to address even your enemies with kindness. This raises an interesting question. How do you greet your friends, coworkers, and neighbors? How about acquaintances you meet in public? You may even encounter someone you don’t necessarily like yet still acknowledge them out of courtesy. So if you’re this nice and polite to other people, doesn’t your spouse deserve the same? Times ten? It’s probably something you don’t think about very often – the first thing you say to him or to her when you wake up in the morning, the look on your face when you get in the car, the energy in your voice when you speak on the telephone. But here’s something else you probably don’t stop to consider – the difference it would make in your spouse’s day if everything about you expressed the fact that you were really, really glad to see them. When someone communicates that they are glad to see you, your personal sense of self-worth increases. You feel more important and valued. That’s because a good greeting sets the stage for positive and healthy interaction. Like love, it puts wind in your sails. Think back to the story Jesus told of the prodigal son. This young, rebellious man demanded his inheritance money and then wasted it on a foolish lifestyle. But soon his bad choices caught up with him, and he found himself eating scraps in a pigpen. Humbled and ashamed, he practiced his apologies and tried to think of the best way to go home and face his father. But the greeting he was expecting was not the one he received. “While he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion for him, and ran and embraced him and kissed him” (Luke 15:20). Of all the scenarios this young man had played out in his mind, this was likely the last one he expected. But how do you think it made him feel to receive his father’s embrace and hear his thankful tone? He no doubt felt loved and treasured once again. What do you think it did in their relationship? What kind of greeting would make your mate feel like that? How could you excite his or her various senses with a simple word, a touch, a tone of voice? A loving greeting can bless your spouse through what they see, hear and feel. It doesn’t have to be bold and dramatic every time. But adding warmth and enthusiasm gives you the chance to touch your mate’s heart in subtle, unspoken ways.

When you bump into someone

Encourage your child to move carefully through crowds. Walking is mandatory; running is annoying to others and almost guarantees a disaster. When your child is in a public place such as a department store, a church, an airport, a fair, or a theater lobby, he should be careful not to bump into others. Elderly people especially, who may be insecure on their feet, find running threatening and disrespectful. Being boisterous is never the preferred way for a child to stand out in a crowd. Tell your child that the more self-control he displays in public, the more compliments he’ll receive on his behavior. Source: 365 Manners Kids Should Know by Sheryl Eberly

Volunteers Needed Please!

Thanks be to God, our youngest church members are growing in number and we need more nursery workers to spend one Sunday a month in the nursery during our time of worship. If you are interested in this opportunity, please let Shannon or Janie know as soon as possible. Again, just one Sunday a month would be a huge help. Or find a buddy and take turns every other month on a specific Sunday. Thanks for your prayerful consideration!

The Care & Fellowship Committee is looking for volunteers to help on Sunday, October 12th to prepare for our Neighbor to Neighbor pancake supper fundraiser being held on Wednesday, October 15th. We also

need helpers for our Trunk or Treat Hot Dog Supper on Saturday, October 25th. Please see Barbara Barnas or Denise Cummings!

He Knows My Name by Francesca Battistelli

Spent today in a conversation In the mirror face to face with somebody less than perfect. I wouldn't choose me first if

I was looking for a champion. In fact I'd understand if

You picked everyone before me. But that's just not my story.

True to who You are You saw my heart

and made Something out of nothing.

I don't need my name in lights. I'm famous in my Father's eyes.

Make no mistake He knows my name.

I'm not living for applause. I'm already so adored.

It's all His stage. He knows my name.

I'm not meant to just stay quiet.

I'm meant to be a lion. I'll roar beyond a song

With every moment that I've got. True to who You are You saw my heart

and made Something out of nothing.

I don't need my name in lights. I'm famous in my Father's eyes.

Make no mistake He knows my name.

I'm not living for applause. I'm already so adored.

It's all His stage. He knows my name.

He calls me chosen, free forgiven, wanted, child of

the King, His forever, held in treasure...

I am loved.

I don't need my name in lights... I'm famous in my Father's eyes...

God made each of us unique. None of us are exactly the same. Some people desire to be the center of attention, always making sure they are noticed. Others are content to just sit back or go with the flow, not needing to be in the spotlight. This song reassures us that no matter which category we fall into (or somewhere in between!) that God notices us. He knows our name. We don’t have to perform or earn His attention or applause. He adores us simply because we are His children. Thanks be to God!
