Story
The Hustling game is a short film (5 minutes) showing how gambling and hustling at pool can be very addictive but also very dangerous, we start off by seeing two characters walking down the street having a conversation, one saying that he is on his way to play pool to get a couple of extra pounds, his mate Sam, is a very innocent but also not a gambling man, is talked into coming along to get some money. Sam only agreed to join him because he is having problems at home, and his mother needs an operation he can’t afford. Once he

arrives at the club, he plays one game and wins, earning him some money, after that, Sam becomes hooked, winning game after game after game, earning more and more money. Sam becomes unbeatable, making enough money to pay for his mums operation and much more. Sam is warned by his friend to stop before he does something to regret, but he doesn’t listen, he plays one game after, and loses everything, having no money and no friend to fall back on, so he has no option but to ask the dealer for money, something that comes with consequences, anything borrowed, must be paid back within a day! Sam tells himself that his next game will be his best and last but it’s against ex best mate, who challenged him, winning this game would mean doubling his money so he can pay back the dealer and pay for his mums operation, but it all goes wrong, losing the game on his last shot, missing a very straight forward simple shot. Losing all his money for his mum, but also having no money to pay back the dealer. Finally having the dealer’s debt collectors looking for him, finding him, and leaving him beat down and broken in street, leaving him to look back and everything he had done, and regretting every decision he had made.
Other Media already been produced that are similar to your idea for a film
Other films that have been made such as “The Hustler” are examples of similar films that have the same idea of gambling and hustling as ours.
Style:
This film will be shot a film noir type of style; an example of this type of style would be present within the film titled “Sin City”. There will be a sound track present for most parts of the film for example shots taken within the snooker hall there would be a buzz track of people playing and talking. Music will be used and should be in the style of jazz or something up tempo. There will be narration in this short film allowing the characters to talk and do anything necessary.
Roles and Distribution:
This project will be worked on by me (Lucien Abou-Zeid) and another member of the class, his name is Tom Noad. The roles I will be taking on are that I will be the camera man and at the same time will be the director of the film. Tom will have the role of being the producer of the film along-side being in charge of the sound and lighting used. In terms of distribution, it will be distributed evenly however if one of us do require help then it will be worked upon together. The whole background and context of the film is set up as a drama type film. The story is focusing on the consequences of gambling and how mixing in with the wrong crowd could not only affect you but may also affect the people around you.
Costs and production:
As far as the funding and cost goes we hope to use our own money evenly however not much is required as most of the equipment will be accessible to us by the school media department.
