The qualifications include near coastal and blue water qualifications they are cited as either meeting:• some of the requirements for certification as defined by the National Standard for
Commercial Vessels (NSCV) Part D for near coastal operations, or • the relevant Marine Orders under the Australian Navigation Act 2012
Both of the above Legislation are administered by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA).

The 2 Integrated Ratings qualifications meet the competency requirements as described in Marine Orders 70 and 73 (2014) under the Australian Navigation Act 2012.
Because of the changes to the 3 existing qualifications these qualifications have been deemed as not equivalent . The total number of units in the Linespersons qualification for example has been increased, new units included and the qualification changed from a Certificate I to a Certificate II.

The following Continuous Improvement Projects (CIP) are highlighted for 2016.
The ETO qualification will cover the duties, functions and responsibilities of an ETO as specified in Marine Order 72.
Where employers have identified a need for sector‐specific competencies and advised TLISC accordingly , for example dredging., these will be scoped and specific units developed .
This skill Set will cover the needs of Roll ‐on , Roll‐off vessels and will incorporate STCW Table A‐V1/2 competencies
