EARTHING / AUXILIARY TX
OUR PRODUCT OVERVIEW – cont.OUR PRODUCT OVERVIEW – cont.
In areas where earth point is not available, a neutral point is created using an earthing transformer. Earthing transformer, having the zig-zag (interstar) winding is used to achieve the required zero phase impendence stage which provides the possibility of neutral earthing condition. In addition an auxiliary windings can also be provided to meet the requirement of an auxiliary power supply.
Earthing transformers are usually oil immersed and may be installed outdoor. As for connection, the earthing can be connected directly, through an arc-suppression reactor or through a neutral earthing reactor or resistor. In cases where a separate reactor is connected between the transformer neutral and earth, the reactor and the transformer can be incorporated into the same tank.

TRANSFORMER LIFE MANAGEMENT
TRANSFORMER LIFE MANAGEMENT
Critical oil-filled electrical equipment especially transformers, are critical elements of an electrical power system. Their reliable and continued performance is the key to profitable generation and transmission. Their costs of acquisition, replacement, transportation, installation and repairs are among the highest on the system. Their failures, and resulting unavailability, create losses of revenues. These failures, when catastrophic, will generate substantial costs in terms of peripheral equipment destruction, environmental damages and unplanned emergency utilization of human resources and alternative power sources.
WHAT ARE THE COMMON FAILURES / DEFECTS? Oil leak from covers, bushings, gaskets,
corrugated fins and welding. Electricals failures such shorts circuits, over
heat and out of ratio’s output Mechanical failures such as the tap changer
malfunction
HOW THIS IMPACT? All the failures can lead to transformers stop
from doing his job.
TRANSFORMER LIFE MANAGEMENT
Major oil leak can caused insufficient oil inside transformer tanks Less oil means the tx will loss their cooling agents
for the most critical parts, the core and windings. Since the tx had the high electrical activities, the windings
will always in hot conditions and the oil needed as the cooling agents
Less oil will reduce the electrical clearance between the winding and between electrical parts and tanks Tx is designed in such compact to cater the needs of high
voltage activities. Oil also, in this needs will act as parts of insulation material in providing additional virtual clearance needed.
TRANSFORMER LIFE MANAGEMENT
Dirty, high gas content and low breakdown voltage for tx oil. Low voltage breakdown will cause the oil lost its
function as parts of insulation agent Dirty, high particles content can caused electrical
shorting between winding Some unstable gas such hydrogen, CO and O2
can react to each other and create internal moisture.
Attendance of acetylene gas can show us that the winding had gone thru high electrical works that caused high winding temperature. High numbers of acetylene shows either the insulation paper had deteriorate , high temperature activities or some short circuits had happened.
TRANSFORMER LIFE MANAGEMENT
BESIDES THE VISUAL CHECK, WHAT ELSE CAN WE DO TO DETERMINE THE Tx CONDITION?
OUR RECOMMENDATIONS ARE: Functional test and/or service of the tap changer On site electrical test to confirms the winding, the electrical
clearance is in good condition Recommended test:
Ratio Insulation Resistance Winding Resistance
The Tx “Blood Test” Recommended Blood Test (minimum):
Dielectric Breakdown Moisture Content Dissolved gas analysis
Note: All above are recommended as yearly maintenance checked.
TRANSFORMER LIFE MANAGEMENT
Change the oil gaskets at once in 5 years frequency Oil filtration works
Depending on the oil test a.k.a “blood test” results
