1. GENERALThis practice is an installation and maintenance guide for the ADTRAN® Total Access® 3000/3010 Quad CES SHDSL Access Module (Quad CES SHDSL Module). The Quad CES SHDSL Module (P/N 1182421L1) front panel is illustrated in Figure 1.
Revision HistoryThis is the initial issue of this practice. Future changes to this documentation will be explained in this subsection.
2. DESCRIPTIONThe Quad CES SHDSL Module provides four SHDSL ports in a single access module for the Total Access 3000/3010 chassis. The four ports are configurable individually on a port-by-port basis using Total Access 3000/3010 standard menus. The Quad CES SHDSL Module supports loop rates from 192 kbps to 2.048 Mbps. This unit is 100 percent compliant with the ITU recommendation (G.991.2 Annex B) for SHDSL transmission, ensuring spectral compatibility and interoperability.

A multiplexer module is used in conjunction with the Quad CES SHDSL Module. For ATM applications, the Cell Switch Module (CSM) is the multiplexer used in the Total Access 3000/3010 shelf. The Quad CES SHDSL Module is designed to interface to standard TDM-type SHDSL Network Terminating Units (such as the 65xx family) across the SHDSL link. The CSM allows for 32 DS0s on each of the 4 ports.
The Quad CES SHDSL Module supports both 2-wire and 4-wire operation in accordance with ITU-T G.991.2.
The Quad CES SHDSL Module is an optional linecard in the Total Access 3000/3010 DSLAM, requiring that one CSM is installed in the shelf for proper function-ality.

The Quad CES SHDSL Module is managed by the System Controller Unit (SCU) either through the craft access port or through a Network Management System using Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP).
FeaturesThe basic features of the Total Access 3000/3010 Quad CES SHDSL Module include the following:
Two-wire operationThe SHDSL transceiver in 2-wire operation can support payload data rates from 192 kbps to 2,048 kbps in incre-ments of 64 kbps.
Payload Data Rate = n × 64 kbps for 3 ≤ n ≤ 32
Four-wire operationThe SHDSL transceiver in 4-wire operation can support payload data rates from 2×192 kbps (6 DSOs or 3 per loop) to 2,048 kbps (32 DSOs or 16 per loop) in incre-ments of 64 kbps.
Payload Data Rate = n × 64 kbps for 3 ≤ n ≤ 16 per 2-wire loop
3. COMPLIANCEThe Quad CES SHDSL Module complies with the following international standards:

4. INSTALLATION
After unpacking the Quad CES SHDSL Module, inspect it for damage. If damage is found, file a claim with the carrier then contact ADTRAN Customer Service. Refer to the Warranty and Customer Service section for further information. If possible, keep the original shipping container for returning the Quad CES SHDSL Module for repair or for verification of shipping damage.

Module Installation and Maintenance Practice
CAUTIONElectronic modules can be damaged by ESD. When handling modules, wear an antistatic discharge wrist strap to prevent damage to electronic components. Place modules in antistatic packing material when transporting or storing. When working on modules, always place them on an approved antistatic mat that is electrically grounded.
Instructions for Installing the ModuleThe Quad CES SHDSL Module is a single slot access module. It can be installed in any available slot of the chassis.
To install the Quad CES SHDSL Module, perform the following steps:
1. If present, remove the Access Module Blank from the appropriate access module slot of the Total Access 3000/3010 chassis.
2. Pull the ejector latch, located on the lower left-hand side of the Quad CES SHDSL Module front panel from its closed position.
3. Hold the Quad CES SHDSL Module by the front panel while supporting the bottom edge of the module with the ejector latch opened to engage the chassis edge.
4. Align the module edges to fit in the lower and upper guide grooves for the access module slot.
5. Slide the module into the access module slot. Simultaneous thumb pressure at the top (above the PWR LED) and at the bottom (below the electrostatic caution symbol) of the module will ensure that the module is firmly positioned against the backplane of the chassis.
6. Secure the Quad CES SHDSL Module in place by pushing in on the ejector latch.
When the unit first powers up it runs the power up self-tests. Once the power up self-test is complete, the status LEDs will reflect the true state of the hardware.

Front Panel LEDsThe Quad CES SHDSL Module provides front panel LEDs to display status information. See Table 1 for a listing of the front panel LEDs and their indications.
5. CONNECTIONSThe Quad CES SHDSL Module can be inserted in any access module slot (1-28) of the Total Access 3000 chassis (P/N 1181001L1) or any of the 22 slots in the Total Access 3010 chassis (P/N 1182003L1). The chassis must be equipped with the enhanced SCU (P/N 1181018L1).

The SHDSL signal is provided to the local loop via the Total Access 3000/3010 backplane amphenol connectors labeled Pair 1 through Pair 8. Table 2 defines the pin numbers of the backplane connectors.

6. PROVISIONINGAll management access of the unit is achieved via the SCU. The SCU provides VT100, Telnet, TL1, and SNMP management access through local or remote connections. For more detailed information on the Total Access 3000/3010 SCU management capabilities reference the SCU Installation and Maintenance Practice (P/N 61181018L1-5).
Upon initial installation, the Quad CES SHDSL Module will be provisioned according to factory default settings, as shown in the Provisioning Options table.
To gain management access to the Quad CES SHDSL Module, perform the following steps:
1. Using the SCU RS-232 craft interface port, access the Total Access Main Menu.
2. From the Main Menu, select Access Modules, and press ENTER.
3. From the Access Modules menu, select the slot number for Quad CES SHDSL Module to be configured, and press ENTER.
The Quad CES SHDSL Module Main Menu will display.
Menu StructureThe menu structure for the Quad CES SHDSL Module is a layered menu tree. Each menu level consists of submenus and/or menu items.
• Submenus are elements that move the user down to the next menu level.
• Menu items are elements that allow the user to make changes to the current Quad CES SHDSL Module settings.
The Quad CES SHDSL Module supports two different types of menu items:
• read-only: A read-only menu (screen) item displays information that cannot be changed.
• read-write: A read-write menu item displays information that when selected can be changed.
There are a number of menu screens designed to aid in the maintenance and troubleshooting of the Quad CES SHDSL Module. Figure 2 on page 5 illustrates the Quad CES SHDSL Module menu tree.

Main MenuThe Quad CES SHDSL Module Main Menu includes the following items:
• Configuration• Provisioning• Status• Alarms• Test• Performance• Remote Terminal
ConfigurationThe Configuration screen lists product information, which includes the following:
• Vendor ID• Part Number• Serial Number• Manufacturing Date• Product Revision• CLEI Code• Software Revision
ProvisioningThe Provisioning screen is used to provision each of the SHDSL ports independently.
A specific port rate can be 192 kbps to 2,048 kbps in increments of 64 kbps. Input the number DS0s desired, starting at 3 and ending at 32.
NOTEIf this is a first time installation, the Quad CES SHDSL Module must be put into the In Service state once all of the provisioning options have been chosen.
CAUTIONSome provisioning changes will affect the data flow on the SHDSL circuit.

StatusThe Status screen displays information for the Circuit Emulation System (CES) and for each SHDSL loop.
CES StatusThis screen displays information for the CES side of the module:
• MUX status• Loop State• VPI number• VCI number• Number of timeslots assigned
SHDSL StatusThis status information includes the following:
• Loopback Status• Loop Signal Margin• Loop Attenuation• Active Error counts
The ability to select the loop (1 through 4) is made from this screen, as is the ability to reset (zero) the error counters.
AlarmsThe following alarms will be reported either via the modules Alarms screen accessed through the Total Access 3000/3010 SCU craft port or via SNMP traps:
• ES Threshold Crossing• SES Threshold Crossing• UAS Threshold Crossing• CVC Threshold Crossing• LOSWS Threshold Crossing• Outage Seconds (OS) Threshold Crossing• LOS (Loss of Signal)• LOSW (Loss of Sync Word)• CRC Errors• SNR Margin• Loop Attenuation• Remote Loss of Power

TestThe Test screen is used to perform a SHDSL loopback at the STU-C or STU-R (local or remote unit) or to provide metallic access via the Total Access 3000/3010 chassis.
Loopback capability includes the following:
• Dual-sided
• Customer, transparent and non-transparent• Network, transparent and non-transparent
Transparent loopbacks loop the signal and also pass it through to the far end. Non-transparent loopbacks in the Network or Customer direction from the STU-C will result in an all-ones signal being transmitted to the end away from the loopback.
PerformancePerformance Monitoring Data for each CES loop and for each SHDSL receiver is available for 15-minute and 24-hour increments.
Remote TerminalAccess and control of the STU-R (remote terminal) menus is accessed from this screen.
To end the Remote Terminal access, press CTRL+X.
A timeout feature will terminate remote access with 5 minutes of inactivity.
7. MENU TREEThe menu tree in Figure 2 illustrates the path to every provisioning, performance, and test access point in the Quad CES SHDSL Module menu system.
8. MAINTENANCEThe Quad CES SHDSL Module requires no routine maintenance for normal operation.
ADTRAN does not recommend that repairs be attempted in the field. Repair services may be obtained by returning the defective unit to ADTRAN. Refer to the Warranty and Customer Service section for further information.
