ApplicationFor determination of the specific surface (Blaine value) of powders, especially suitable for the permanent control of manufacturing characteristics in the daily laboratory work. This measuring procedure serves as practice oriented alternative for the standard procedure according to DIN EN 196-6 as well as ASTM C 204.

DesignThe device consists of a microprocessor control unit and a housing with measuring unit. Via magnet valve and membrane pump, a vacuum is achieved by using an U-tube manometer with contactless, adjustable, optical level sensors. This vacuum will be balanced by the air stream through the powder bed in the permeability cell.
Working PrincipleUsing the plunger the powder will be compac-ted within the permeability cell to a defined volu-me. (with an optional electronic dial gauge, the Blaine value can be corrected to the actual volume). After placing the filled permeability cell and entering the samples data for the specific test into the control unit the test will be automatically performed and evaluated. The Blaine value is calculated as average value of the values measured in the single cell according to recent standards (e.g. DIN EN 196-6, ASTM C 204).
