GOOD evening and a very warm welcome everyone to Love Lane, Petersfield, for an evening of FA Youth Cup football.
I want to start by wishing a warm welcome to Chichester City Football Club and their supporters and I hope they enjoy their evening with us.
Obviously we are neighbouring football clubs and that adds to the ocassion of the game.
For many of my young team this is their first venture into FA Youth Cup football and they are, along with the rest of the squad, certainly looking forward to the experience.
We must therefore be correctly focused and play our football in the right way. Chichester are an excel-lent footballing side and should not be under estimated in any way.
We hope this evening is both a good advert for the FA Youth Cup and Wessex League football. May the best team win.
ANDY FIELD-MILLARD, YOUTH TEAM MANAGER
WELCOME to Love Lane this evening – especially the players, officials and supporters from Chichester City FC and tonight’s match officials.
The club welcomes the opportunity to stage another evening of FA Youth Cup football and to be involved in such a prestigious competition.
Our players should take pride in being able to rep-resent their club in a national cup competition, mirror-ing what our first team has done in the FA Cup and FA Vase so excellently so far this season.
Enjoy tonight’s game and see again on Saturday.GRAEME MOIR, VICE CHAIRMAN

HISTORY of FA Youth Cup
THE FA Youth Cup has been contested now for more than 60 years.
The competition, which has show-cased the emerging talent of players like George Best, Paul Gascoigne, David Beckham and Wayne Rooney, was started way back in 1952.
At the end of the war the FA had de-cided to organise a ‘youth championship’ for county associations.
That was considered to be the best way to stimulate the game among those youngsters who had recently left school and were not yet old enough to play senior football.
Matches in the new competition didn’t attract large crowds but outstanding play-ers were selected for youth internationals and thousands of other boys were given the chance to play in a national contest for the first time.
By 1951 it was realised that a com-petition for clubs would probably have a wider appeal.
In the first season of ‘The FA Youth Challenge Cup’ (1952-53) entry was re-stricted to the youth teams of clubs, both professional and amateur, who were in direct membership with The FA.
The Manchester United team of Duncan Edwards and the other ‘Busby Babes’ slaughtered non-league Nantwich 23-0 in the second round – still a record victory for the competition.
The competition as a whole got off to a great start, the two legs of the final pulling in 21,000 and 15,000 fans respectively.
United went on to lift the trophy, defeating Wolverhampton Wanderers 9-3 on aggregate.
Clubs like Blackpool, Chelsea, Sun-derland and West Brom had been elimi-
nated by the third round and little Huntley & Palmers FC, the Reading biscuit-mak-ers, surprised everyone by reaching the semi finals.
Norwich City are the current holders of the trophy after they beat Chelsea 4-2 on aggregate in last season’s competition.
Chelsea were winners in 2012 and 2010, while Manchester United took the title in 2011.
The Red Devils dominated the early years of the competition, winning the first five years between 1953 and 1957.
The closest a south coast club has come to winning the competition was in 2005 when Southampton lost the final on aggregate to Ipswich Town.
The winners of tonight’s tie will face an away tie at Bournemouth Poppies in the next round.
Competition has launched careers of famous players
