Title: Photosynthesis Virtual Lab
Instructions for Lab
Write the Headings for each section.Write the information that follows each heading.
Purpose
Investigate what colors of the light spectrum cause the most plant growth.
Research~Color is perceived From the actual visibleLight being reflected~ visible light beingAll colors moving so Quickly they appear White.~ with the apple, Chemical pigments inside allow all colors butRed to be absorbed(light is heat, so its absorbingHeat)
Research
~ Visible Light (the stuff that lights everything up) is a radiation that comes from the sun.~ It is send from the sun to the Earth in the for of ways.~ In order for the light to reach the surface of the Earth it must burn hot enough to last the trip, other wise it will run out of gas, never making it for humans to view. This is why stars appear different colors.
Red stars: cooler stars (closer to Earth)Green / Yellow: medium Temp (close but not too)Blue / Violet: Extreme Heat (far away)
These lines that come from the sides of the sunRepresent the radiation that is emitted by the sun
Research
~ In this picture, color represents heat.~ What do these colors tell you about how hot something is?
ResearchInterpret this chart.1. At zero feet away all colors areSeen clearly.2. The further you get away fromThe source, the color deems.3. Since it requires more heatTo travel long distances, the Only remaining color to seeIs that of violet.4. Violet burns very hot very fast, so it Will be the only color to last the distance And still be seen.
Hypothesis
What affect will light color have on the growth of typical plants ? (remember the correlation between heat and light)(answer this question as your hypothesis)
Variables
Light Color – left sidePlant type
Control
Right side Light ( stays orange)(this color will mimic the color of our sun)

Interpreting Data
Complete the chart
Conclusion
1. What affect did the color of the light have on plant growth?
2. Was heat a factor in light color?3. What caused the plants on the sides to grow
less than the plants in the middle?4. How might bioengineers use these findings in
crop production?5. What effect would this have on clothing
makers?
