JULY
Wednesday 17th Grade 4 Camp (Camp ADANAC) returns on Friday 19th July.
Principal Each week I sit down to write the Principal’s letter to you our community, I am amused at how quickly the weeks go by. I was in a Foundation Class during the week and the students were so settled and in the daily routines. You would think they had been here for years.
As I have mentioned previously, the school is currently involved in a School Review Process. The panel commented during their Field Day and Observation Walks through the classrooms how well established the learning culture here is at the school. They noted the bright environments of classrooms, the willingness of students to engage in learning and the professionalism of the staff, just to name a few. They also noted the obvious parent participation and support of the school. (Well done Jill Patford on your involvement on behalf of the parents.)
I was very excited when Mr.Babic told me that Kate Porter has made the State Finals in Swimming on the 24th April. As a community we wish Kate and her family all the best as they attend this exciting event.
The students, and staff looked amazing for our school photos and the day progressed very smoothly. Yet another compliment, the photo company congratulated the school on the excellent behaviour of our students. Thankyou to the parent who helped on the day.
The week also saw Asha’s fourth Birthday Celebrations. The students gave him a day full of fun and laughter. He slept very soundly Friday night! Well done everyone.
Parents may have been mistaken thinking that KPS had gone back into the 19th Century with the day starting with no power, teachers set about responding to the challenge. Mr Parkinson even rand an old school bell manually. The students worked diligently and with a great sense of calmness without laptops, printers and learning opportunities continued as usual.
A big thank you for Jodie Cloke and her band of parent helpers for making the chicken schnitzel hot food lunch a huge success. They made a total of 442 schnitzel rolls which is a huge effort.
Only two weeks until the end of term.
Have a great week everyone

Let the CHALLENGE begin… This term we are focusing on ensuring we are on time to school. Our ‘Bee on Time Challenge’ works like this: * Each time your child is at school before the bell goes, he/she can place a ‘precious pebble’ in the BEE on Time jar. * The class will work as a team to fill their jar and the class will receive a certificate at assembly. * The BEE on Time Trophy will be presented at the end of each term, to the year level that has filled the most jars. * Being on time has also been linked to our school values of Kind, Proud and Safe.
On Friday 15th March it was the National Day Against Bullying. All classes participated in a ‘Buddy’ activity to promote the importance of being a ‘Buddy and not a Bully’. Pictured is 1R & 4J’s T-Shirt
designs produced by students to
promote this day.
Happy Birthday
Happy Birthday to the following students who are celebrating their birthday in the coming week. We hope you have a lovely day.

Inappropriate usage of disabled car parking
Just a reminder that Disabled Car Parks are for people with a suitable permit. We have had several complaints about people using these spaces without a valid permit. We have several families and grandparents with mobility issues that rely on these parking spot to collect their students safely. We have notified the council and the local police who will be conducting frequent checks at school drop off and pick up times. We do acknowledge that parking is limited but we do ask that patience and consideration is shown at all times.
Don’t Forget Colour Run 4 Fun will be held on Friday 5
th April.
We request for all sponsorship forms and money to be returned to the school by Wednesday 3rd April 2019.
Students who obtain donations from family and friends can earn exciting reward prizes according to
the amount of money raised. If you have used the online profile page you can order prizes from there or you can complete it on the
hardcopy paperwork that is handed in with cash donations.
All students can participate on the day regardless if they have donations for the run
We will be holding our colour run after recess it will run from 11.20am to 1.20pm approximately (2.30pm school day finish)
Kids will be running in their house colours, one lap with just their house colour getting squirted onto them and a second with all the colours.
It is hoped that each house colour will get two turns of doing laps around the fantastic obstacle course with many fun stations created by Mr Babic and F&F.
There will also be a run with no colour for any children who do not wish to get sprayed.
We do ask that you send your child in clothes that can get coloured on the day including a white top (the one purchased through school or just from home).
The colour powder is made of high-quality corn starch with permitted food colours. It is non-toxic, bio-degradable, skin safe and environmentally friendly.
Parents and family are encouraged to come along to watch and help out on the day!
All students will get a headband and sunglasses before the runs start on the day Some parents have modeled the items below

Numeracy News
Across the school, many of our students are focusing on content from the measurement section of the Victorian curriculum. Our Grade 1s have been learning about capacity. They have been comparing and ordering different containers. Students made predictions before checking using liquid or sand. They discovered it was important to use the same unit of measurement and also that some containers might be short and wide but have a larger capacity than tall, thin containers.
Real life examples of capacity
Our Grade 3 and 4 students have been exploring length. They have measured items in centimetres and metres and used different tools, including rulers, tape measures and trundle wheels. Did you know that from one end of the asrtoturf to the other, it is approximately 38 metres? Students estimated prior to measuring and measured twice to confirm their first measurement was accurate. Knowing how to measure accurately is an important skill used in many occupations every day. Maths really is everywhere!
Our Foundation
students recently
celebrated 20 days at
school. They explored
the number 20 and
made collections of
20 with different
materials. We use
numbers every single
day – not just at
school. How many
times have you used
numbers today?

Asha’s Adventures
Hello everyone! This is my first newsletter as a four year old! Thank you so very much for celebrating my birthday with me last week. I hope you had as much fun as I did! A special thank you to Mrs
Bloomfield, Miss Parkes and
the Student Action Team
(formerly known as SRC)
who organised games for us
at recess and lunchtime. The
doggy disco was a hit. I chose
to supawvise as I’ve got two
left feet, literally, so dancing
can be tricky! Musical dogs
was lots of fun too – I think it
will catch on and musical
statues will be a thing of the
past.
The Student Action Team are now busy counting all of the gold coins to find the total amount we will be donating to Seeing Eye Dogs Australia. SEDA will use the money to train guide dogs to help people in the community who can’t see so well. Kindness is one of our school values and everyone was supaw kind and generous donating a gold coin. Thank you!
Asha’s Adventures continued…
I was spoilt rotten with pats, cards, birthday wishes, treats and a special doggy cake. There were even four little carrot candles. There aren’t four little candles anymore…
Comments and questions that have put a smile on my dial this week… “Asha, you’re four today! That means you’re not three anymore!” “You should put all your cards in your room. Wait, do you have your own room?” “My brother is four. Just like you!” “Happy birthday, Asha!”
Being four is hard work!
