No. This month we’re exploding the GHT 2.1 Home Entertainment iPod speaker dock that boasts the sturdiest body and biggest bass of any iPod-compatible speaker dock we’ve tested thus far.
At a half a metre long and weighing in at a huge 7kg, this is one beast of an iPod dock. After it was gutted, we had to eventually give up trying to dismatle the 20mm thick body when we realised that nothing short of a circular saw was going to penetrate this speaker’s hull.Packed within this piano varnished, magnetically shielded shell are two powerful cone speakers and one of the deepest subwoofers we’ve heard. The bass tones really vibrate out of the body giving a clear but deep sound. Simple, top-mounted controls consist of volume controls, bass boost (like you’d need it) and standby switches all of which are located right by the adjustable mounting dock that is capable of supporting any past or present model of iPod (except shuffles). Auxillary ports allow the option of connecting up to your existing home theatre or stereo setup. The GHT 2.1 Home Entertainment iPod dock is a stylish-looking piece of audio equipment that pumps good quality audio through a robustly made body (and puts the flimsier iPod docks to shame).

The GHT 2.1 subwoofer dock is
compatible with all makes of iPod past
and present. (Except for those pesky
shuffles.)
The main board is built for strength with all
connections firmly glued in place to
avoid them vibrating loose.
With the speakers at the
front and the main board in the rear, the
centre of this beast is occupied by the transformer and
a whole lot of empty space.
PC-style cooling vents
help keep the main board’s temperature
down in this well-sealed case.
