The Vasil`s Day puts the begining of the New Year.This holiday is also called "Survaki" because of the bulgarian
custom survakane.
Traditions and Customs on Vasil`s Day
Housewifes gift the survakari with buns, dried fruits, petty cash and tuck. The survakari have to exorcise the unclean powers, which raging during the "dirty" days and to protect people from them.
In the national calendar the Vasil`s Day is called Survaki because of the custom survakane. By the tradition the
children go round the houses and with cornel twigs wish health and prosperity to house farmers.
If the walnut nuts are large and strong, then the family will be healthy.
If someone sneezes, it is accepted as a good sign and his name is given to the first born pet in spring.
