“After his suffering, he presented
himself to them and gave many
convincing proofs that he was
alive. He appeared to them over a
period of forty days and spoke
about the kingdom of God.”
Acts 1:3
Everyone knows about the
forty days of Lent. We have the extra
midweek Lenten services and you may
hear about people giving something up
for Lent. But is there another group of
forty days that sometimes gets over-
looked: the forty days of Easter? Be-
tween Easter and Ascension we hear
of many resurrection appearances by
Jesus: the women at the tomb, the
disciples, Peter, James and to more
than 500 of the believers at one time
(1 Corinthians 15:5-6).
Now granted, we don’t have a
lot of information about these appear-
ances of Jesus, but we do know what
he was doing: he “spoke about the
kingdom of God.” He continued to
teach his disciples. I think that most
of us would like to have our own resur-
rection appearance. What questions
would we ask Jesus? What would he
teach us? While we don’t have that visi-
ble presence of Jesus, we do have his
promise, “And surely I am with you al-
ways, to the very end of the age.” If Je-
sus appeared in front of us, I think all of
us would stop whatever we are doing to
give him our full attention. We have Je-
sus’ word and yet isn’t it easy to let other
things take priority over time in God’s
word? Easier than we would like to ad-
mit.
At the beginning of Lent this year
you were encouraged to pick up a Bible
reading program for the forty days of
Lent, and I hope you did. I want to en-
courage you to continue reading your
Bible for Easter. If you read the writings
of John, try Mark’s gospel and Peter’s
writings. You may have heard that it
takes 21 consecutive days to form a
habit and only 3 days to break it. Con-
tinue the habit that you’ve put hard work
into forming. Jesus has ascended into
heaven and is at the right hand of God.
He is ruling over all things for the benefit
of the church (Ephesians 1:22). But that
doesn’t mean he is far from any of us.
His word is only as far away as your Bi-
ble.

The Redeemer Register
April 2016 Volume 12, Issue 4
During the month of March, Pastor Wayne Mueller
accepted the call to again serve Redeemer through
a retirement call from September 15, 2016
through May 15, 2017, Ms. Leah Clark accepted
the call to serve as a teacher for the preschool and
elementary school, and Ms. Jessica Seiltz returned
a call to Crystal Lake, Illinois and will continue to
serve at Redeemer. Ms. Hannah Stahl received a
call to serve as daycare director at St. John's Lutheran Church in Dowagiac, MI. and
Mr. Peek received a call to Peace in Livonia, MI to serve as their 7th-8th grade
teacher and principal. We rejoice in the calls that have been accepted and ask that
you keep Hannah Stahl and Mike Peek in your thoughts and prayers as they deliber-
ates these new calls.
As mentioned in previous reports, one of the congregation concerns is those mem-
bers who have drifted from our fellowship and are no longer worshiping on a regular
basis nor participating in other activities at Redeemer. The Redeemer elders are
working to re-staff the Spiritual Care Elders to continue addressing this issue. As of
the date of this report, Bob Boschee and Gene Schlepp have accepted the request to
serve in this capacity; we thank them for their service. Two others are still consider-
ing this request. Please keep this in your thoughts and prayers that we may fully
staff this critically needed function. Also, if you have a friend, relative, or neighbor
who has stopped attending, please speak with them; encouragement from a friend
or relative as a concerned fellow Christian is often all that is needed to bring those
who have wandered back.
Redeemer has been blessed with many visitors worshiping with us. Please take the
opportunity to introduce yourself and make our visitors feel welcome.
Please feel free to approach any of the elders with questions or comments.
In Christ,
Mark Lange

You are encouraged to attend the rally in Lakeside on April 23 (see registration form on page 8) and hear mission up-
dates on the Apache Reservation and Friends of China. You will also meet Melinda Sims, LWMS International Secretary,
who will present a message on our mother organization. Watch for information on the Fall Retreat in an upcoming Re-
deemer Register.
LWMS is divided into three levels: local, circuit and international. LOCAL level is the women of our congrega-
tions. Each church has a "reporter," who gives us info from the circuit. CIRCUIT level is congregations in a close geographi-
cal area. Ours is "Grand Canyon Circuit East" and includes El Paso, TX; New Mexico: and Eastern Arizona. Circuits hold ral-
lies twice a year (spring and fall) at volunteering congregations, where women meet to hear mission speakers, worship to-
gether, and sponsor WELS mission projects. In AZ, every other fall a weekend retreat is held in conjunction with the rally,
where Grand Canyon East and West both participate. Officers are elected to run business for each circuit. INTERNATIONAL
level includes circuits in US, Canada and the West Indies. LWMS is administered by a nine-member board of directors
elected by ballots from each member congregation.
What difference does it make?:
In addition to sharing spiritual support, encouragement and educating people about missions, LWMS collects mission
offerings from members and convention attendees. One hundred percent of mission offerings go towards mission work. It
is estimated that in the 40+ years since the inception of LWMS, approximately $4,250,000 have been given to mis-
sions! Though raising money is not their most important goal, LWMS is happy to contribute to mission projects around the
world. Projects that are in need of support can be found in the LWMS Home and World Missions Projects booklet, which
can be found on lwms.org.

The Lord of the Church
has much work to do in his king-
dom. He desires that everyone

the work that he did to win salva-
On Wednesday night,
March 9th, we learned of the
death of our friend and fellow
teacher, Mr. John Henderson.
John taught 7th-8th grade at Em-
manuel Lutheran School in
Tempe.
John's death is not fully
understood yet by the doctors,
but he leaves behind his wife
Ronda and three children. Kaitlin
is a graduate student in Michi-
gan; Jenna (ALA 2014) is a stu-
dent at GCU; and Nathan is a
senior at ALA this year.
We cannot fully under-
stand what our Lord had in mind
when he called John home at a
relatively young age, but we have
full confidence that he has re-
warded his child with the crown
of everlasting life through faith in
Jesus! John now enjoys our Sav-
ior's presence face-to-face, and
his family knows this full well and
expresses it with certainty, even
through their tears.
Jesus said: "I am the Resurrec-
tion and the Life. He who be-
lieves in me will live, even though
he dies. And whoever lives and
believes in me will never die."
John 11:25-26
Preregistration for the
2016-2017 school year is well
underway. We are getting stu-
dents and families excited for
next year. If you know of anyone
who has school aged children,
tion for us. He could do all of
this work with just his word as
he did in the creation of the
world. But in his wisdom, he
chooses to use lowly human be-
ings to be the instruments of his
saving word. God has richly
blessed Redeemer with many
talented and spiritually gifted
people, both lay members and
called workers. Recently, he led
Miss Jessica Seiltz to return the
call that she was holding to Lord
and Savior in Crystal Lake, Il. He
led both Pastor Wayne Mueller,
and Miss Leah Clark to accept
the calls that the Holy Spirit is-
sued through the congregation
of Redeemer. The Holy Spirit has
now also led the congregation of
St. John's Lutheran Church in
Dowagiac, MI to call Miss Han-
nah Stahl to be Daycare Direc-
tor, and the congregation of
Peace in Livonia, MI to call me
to be their 7th-8th grade
teacher and principal. Just as
you have been doing, please
continue in your earnest
prayers; prayers of thanksgiving
for all of the lay members and
called workers that we are
blessed with here in Marana,
and prayers for wisdom and
guidance for both Miss Stahl
and me as we deliberate where
God would like us to use our
gifts to be his instruments.
Please also talk to us as we de-
liberate, so that we might gain
wisdom and insight from you.

Altar Flowers
Beginning April 3rd, altar flowers will be going up to $30 (for 2 bouquets). This amount can be split between two or more parties. I love putting together these bouquets; however, flower prices (as with everything else) have been
going up and it is difficult to fill both vases for much less.
The flower calendar, located in the Ministry Center, has many openings at this time. Please consider signing up
for a Sunday. It doesn’t have to be a special occasion. It can be in thankfulness for blessings in your life or another’s. It can be for happiness, friendship, prayers answered, or many other reasons . . . or no reason, but to beautify the church.
Talk with another member or friend if sharing the cost would make it easier.
Please sign up at least two weeks in advance, but no later than the Sunday before as I do not always get a
chance to check back during the week. Payment can be made at the time you sign up or at the latest by the week prior. If two or more sign up, each owes the appropriate portion (i.e. two would be $15 each, three would be $10 each). Please
designate the Sunday the payment is for on your check’s memo line, or put cash in an envelope with name, date, and amount given designated. Please write the details on the flower calendar or make sure to call and give the details to
Sally Rozon in the office, or myself (by the week before).
The flowers can be picked up after second service and I will try to leave a couple of small vases out for you to
take them home in. Bringing your own vase is great too. If you take a vase home with flowers, please make sure to bring it back by the following Saturday. Please do not take the inserts home with flowers. If you will not be taking your flowers
afterward, please let me know as I will make arrangements for them.
You can reach me directly with questions or details at (520) 977-6548. Thank you for your help and willing-
ness to help beautify our sanctuary.
Your sister in Christ, Linda Kirkpatrick
GREAT EXCHANGE
Do you hate to yard sale your own items? Then you will love the Great Exchange!! This is a two and one-half
day adventure that has proven to delight all ages and both genders. Bring all your no-longer used or never-used items
to the Ministry Center on Sunday April 10. What kind of items? Clothes, books, videos, office supplies, kids toys,
garden items, camping items, computers and copiers, furniture, decorative items, household kitchen items, linens,
pictures and wall hangings, jewelry, pet supplies and craft items. You name it---we will find a loving new home for
it! You do not need to bring items to be able to choose items to take home and enjoy. All items are FREE of charge!
The event is open to families of Redeemer School and Church, friends, co-workers, employees, other WELS churches,
neighbors and acquaintances.
The Exchange is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on April 11 and 12 and from 7 a.m. to noon on April 13. Remaining items
are donated to a local charity.
And did I forget to mention that we have food available at all times to snack on while you are browsing and
looking for the special item you never knew you needed until you see it!! The event is one big social gathering of friends
who love to chat, eat and browse. New items come in each day, so don't hesitate to come back. Everyone leaves
happy!!! If you have questions, call Rachel Meinert at 579-3882 or Ruth Schaller at 572-6686. Come and volunteer

Spring Drama Production What really happened after “once upon a time”? You’ll find out in this fun fairy tale! A substitute narrator is called in on short notice to present stories from a stack of fairy tale books. But just as each tale begins its “once upon a time,” the main characters show up to interrupt and correct the newbie narrator’s telling of their story. Turns out, these characters have hysterical idiosyncrasies: Rapunzel is an insufferable diva, Cin-derella is a clean freak, the Three Little Pigs are hypochondriacs, Little Red Riding Hood is a lawyer defend-ing the Wolf, and more. The chaos continues until the frustrated narrator finally breaks down. It’s up to the characters to comfort the narrator and explain what really happened after “once upon a time.”
What Happened after Once Upon a Time is a play intended for both children and adults! Tickets are $3 for adults and $2 for children 14 and under. Performances are scheduled for Thursday, April 28, at 9:30am (Reserve seats at ALAcoyotes.org and pay at the door; limited seating is available for the Thursday performance.) Friday, April 29, at 7pm. (Tickets available at the door with no reservations needed.)
Summer Camps Registration will open soon for Coyote Summer Camps for elementary students. Go to ALAcoyotes.org/camps to register. Please share this information with friends, relatives and neighbors who have children this age. Those students going into 9th grade might be interested in joining our summer high school camps and ath-letic programs. More info is coming soon!
Class of 2020 Mixer – April 15, 5:30pm | Course Selection Night – April 15, 7pm On April 15, the members of the ALA class of 2020 are invited to a mixer to get to know their new class-mates. That same evening is the first opportunity to register for freshman classes. If you have a student who has not yet applied to ALA for next year, you will need to contact Michelle Meyer, [email protected].
ALA Scrip program Scrip changes are taking place. The revisions that are being put into place brings ALA’s program in line with how most other schools and nonprofits handle the program while reducing the risks and expenses to ALA.
Scrip cards will no longer be available from Scrip representatives in our churches and schools. ALA will continue to offer ScripNow! Reload options and plastic cards will still be available directly through ShopwithScrip.com using PrestoPay. An inventory of plastic cards will be kept at ALA with specific stipulations.
We are so grateful for all who have supported ALA through Scrip! We ask for your continued support as the pro-gram adapts to the changes in the Scrip world. For more information go to ALAcoyotes.org or contact Doug Meyer, Principal Kurt Rosenbaum, or John Mueller at ALA (602-268-8686 or email [email protected]).
ALA Golf Classic The 23rd ALA Golf Classic will be held on April 30, 2016, at the beautiful Legacy Resort in Phoenix and is a fund-raiser for the ALA Athletic Department. Our goal is to raise $20,000 to benefit ALA's student-athletes.
4-person scramble tournament Includes golf, cart, dinner, gifts & prizes $85/golfer - $320/foursome
Register by Friday, April 22, at ALAcoyotes.org. Questions can be directed to Doug Meyer, 602-626-0084 or [email protected].
