Selecting the best intraoral scanner
Choose an intraoral scanner that is:
• Simple and easy
• Does the scanner require powder or liquid?
• Is the scanner truly portable?
• Is the scanner light, ergonomic and easy-to-use?
• Will the scanning experience be comfortable for patients?
• Accurate
• Has the scanner been proven accurate in an independent study?
• Flexible
• Does it support all necessary clinical indications?
• Is the system open? Closed? Both?
• Are there additional per click fees?
• Are there data storage fees?
• Are there additional fees associate with sending files to the lab?
• Smart
• Will it easily integrate into existing office workflow?
• Will there be a return on investment (ROI)?

Now there’s a better way
How does the CS 3600 family differ from other scanners?
• Scan in a smooth, uninterrupted pattern
• Quickly and easily acquire dual-arch or quadrant scans
• Focus on your patient, rather than the screen or buttons, with
“grab-and-go” scanning
• Eliminate the impact of unsteady hands or fidgety patients
between successive views
• Easily pick up where you left off when interrupted
• Eliminate the need for regular weekly calibration
• Obtain highly accurate, high resolution digital impressions
• Choose full HD 3D color or monochromatic
11

Show and tell in full HD 3D
• Highly precise, accurate full HD 3D images offer enhanced image quality
• More vivid color and texture
• 3D HD color scans best reflect reality

CS 3600 – Performance in a Comparative In Vitro Study
What is it? A comparative study between the CS 3600 and competitive scanners
What is it called? Accuracy of four intraoral scanners in oral implantology: a comparative in
vitro study
Who authored the abstract? Mario Imburgia, Silvia Logozzo, Uli Hauschild, Giovanni Veronesi, Carlo
Mangano, and Francesco G. Mangano
What is the finding? The CS 3600 surpassed leading competitors by delivering a significantly
better performance in terms of trueness, while all four scanners offered
similar results in precision.
23

CS 3600 – Performance in a Comparative In Vitro Study
What is the difference between Trueness and Precision?
• Trueness (accuracy) is a measurement of how closely results agree with the true or accepted value.
• Precision is a measure of the reliability and consistency.
ACCURACY VS. PRECISION
The Bullseye Example
24
© Carestream Health, 2017
CS 3600 – Performance in a Comparative In Vitro Study
How does this relate to intraoral scanning? • Trueness measures how closely the scanner replicates the
teeth being scanned
• Precision refers to how consistently the scanner produces
correct results.
What does this mean to the doctor? • Trueness plays a vital role in the fit of final restorations,
appliances and implants
• Precision is important as scanning technique may vary
from user to user, and it is critical that a scanner delivers
consistent results
25
Accuracy helps determine whether
the restoration will fit*

FINDINGS
• All scanners tested had live 3D models with
feedback for accurate data collection and
captured adequate detail for excellent impressions.
• Fastest systems were CS 3600 and iTero Element.
• Handpieces with best ergonomics and intraoral
access were True Definition and CS 3600. Large
handpieces are heavy and can be challenging on
patients with limited opening.

RECENT PEER REVIEWED STUDY ABSTRACT
RESULTS
“Nowadays, it is not a question of ‘if’ but of ‘when’
to jump on the digitalization trend in implant dental
medicine. This trend will change the entire dental
profession. It should be emphasized that further
scientific validation on digital treatment is necessary to
understand the impact of this promising technology
for modifying well-established conventional protocols.
The benefits will be reduced production costs
and improved time-efficiency, and patients’ perceptions
of a modern treatment concept will also be met.
Supplementary large-scale clinical studies on different
digital systems and different digital workflows will
be vital for better utilization of these processes and
for understanding the potential of the digital technology.”

RECENT PEER REVIEWED STUDY ABSTRACT
RESULTS
“None of the digitally constructed RNC crowns required
any clinical adaptation.”
CONCLUSIONS
“Prefabricated or individualized abutments on monolithic
RNC crowns using CAD/CAM technology in a model-

streamlined treatment approach for single-edentulous
space rehabilitation in the posterior region.”

RECENT PEER REVIEWED STUDY ABSTRACT
RESULTS
“Analysis for clinical treatment sessions showed a
significantly shorter mean chair time for the complete
digital workflow of 20.8 min (SD 0.3) compared to 24.1
min (SD 1.1) [P = 0.001]. Even more obvious were the
results for the mean laboratory work time with a
significant reduction of 54.5 min (SD 4.9) vs. 132.5 min
(SD 8.7), respectively [P = 0.0001].”
CONCLUSIONS
“The test workflow was more time-efficient than the
controls for implant-supported crowns; notably,
laboratory fabrication steps could be effectively
shortened with the digital process of monolithic LS2
plus titanium base resulting in more than 30% reduced
overall treatment costs.”

System requirements for the CS 3600 family
Please note that both the two previous configurations are intended for end users.
• Recommended: Ensures optimal performance with the V3.0 release and accommodate future updates. Recent
models (late 2016 / early 2017) of CPU and video card are recommended because they are easy to be purchased in
market. The new V3.0 user should equip the computer referring to the recommended configuration.
• Minimum: Ensures satisfactory performance with V3.0 release but is not safe for future updates. No difference on
hardware compared to the configuration requirements for V2.1. Only the OS requirement was changed to Win 10. So
the existing V2.1 user just needs to upgrade OS to start enjoying V3.0.
