The Military Asset and Security Strategy Task Force (MASS-TF) works to expand the number
of missions, spur job creation, and protect economic investments at Massachusetts’ six military
installations and their surrounding communities. It aims to educate the Massachusetts
business and academic communities about the abundance of opportunities at the
Commonwealth’s military bases, and facilitates connections between these sectors. MASS-TF
is co-chaired by Governor Charlie Baker, U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, U.S. Sen. Ed Markey,
U.S. Rep. Niki Tsongas, and U.S. Rep. Seth Moulton.

Hanscom Field, a full-service general aviation airport owned and operated by Massport. Hanscom Air Force Base is home to Program Executive Offices of the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center and the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center and is controlled by the 66th Air Base Group. NATICK SOLDIER SYSTEMS CENTER, known as Natick Labs, is the U.S. Army’s center for soldier-related research and development. The installation is responsible for technology research and development; engineering; field-testing; and systems to support soldiers in combat, including human-systems integration, food, clothing, and shelter. Natick Labs also has specialized expertise in parachute design and airdrop systems.
JOINT BASE CAPE COD on 22,000 acres in Bourne, Falmouth, Mashpee, and Sandwich, is home to five military commands, including the Massachusetts Army National Guard’s Camp Edwards, the largest training area in the Northeast; the Massachusetts Air National Guard’s 102nd Intelligence Wing, associated Cyber Engineering and Installation Group and Distributed Ground Station on the former Otis Air National Guard Base; the 6th Space Warning Squadron phased array radar site at Cape Cod Air Force Station; and the U.S. Coast Guard at Air Station Cape Cod. These military commands work to protect the land, sea, and air of the northeastern United States.
FORT DEVENS, in Ayer, Devens, Harvard, and Lancaster, provides training facilities and support to enhance the readiness of reserve component units in New England. Fort Devens supports civilians and military personnel from the U.S. Army, Marines, Navy, National Guard, FBI, and the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency.
WESTOVER AIR RESERVE BASE, in Chicopee, is a joint-use military and civilian airport that hosts the 439th Airlift Wing and supports the mission of the C-5B Galaxy and civilian aviation activities. It is the nation’s largest air reserve base in the area, and supports reservists from 34 states who travel to Westover to serve in the Air Force, Army, Navy, and Marine Reserve units.
BARNES AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE at the Westfield-Barnes Regional Airport hosts the 104th Fighter Wing and Army rotary wing assets.
