WELCOME to everyone, especially our guests.

Your presence is important to us.

St. Paul’s is an evangelical Christian

congregation, embracing historic Christian

teaching on all doctrines, centered on Jesus

Christ. Our desire is to bring the Gospel both

to those who are searching for answers to the

meaning of life and to those who desire a

closer relationship with God. We here at St.

Paul's have chosen to align ourselves with the

teachings of the Lutheran Reformation, due

to the clarity with which these help us to see

the true meaning of God's Word.

Specifically, St. Paul's is a ministry of the

Lutheran Church -- Missouri Synod, one of

America's truly biblical churches!

• Members and guests: please fill out an

attendance card and place it in the

offering plate to indicate your presence

today. For Holy Communion, please read

our confession and indicate your

agreement with our beliefs by checking

the box next to the names of those

communing.

• Those sharing our beliefs, especially from

parishes in fellowship with us, are

welcome to receive.

• If you desire Holy Communion but hold a

confession differing from that of this

congregation, please speak with a Pastor

or an Elder.

• Non-communing, baptized children are

welcome to come to the table for a

blessing.

Please note: Half the inner circle of individual

glasses in each tray contains water with one

drop of communion wine for those hesitant to

drink larger amounts of wine. Those glasses

with wine are rose in color. 2

LUTHERAN SERVICE BOOK HYMNAL

(1983) with the LCMS's most current hymnal, the Lutheran Service Book pew edition

(2006). Our goal is to make the transition before year-end. If you are interested in

purchasing the Lutheran Service Book ($23 per book) for your home, or for the church in

memory of a loved one, please contact Cindy Peartree in the church office at 262.567.5001

CHRISTMAS CARING TREE

Thank you for the love and generosity of the members of St. Paul’s. We were able to give

many gifts for the children from the Lake County area and also the residents of Bethesda.

A special thanks to Mary Hickenbottom and Lynne Lavota who helped organize the

Christmas Caring Tree.

BOARD OF CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

“Christmas is important to me because Jesus was born,” writes one of St. Paul’s eighth

graders. This theme is what our St. Paul’s students and staff demonstrated so

wonderfully in last weekend’s worship services. St. Paul’s School is alive with the message

of Jesus’ birth! Another eighth grader writes, “I think that the meaning of Christmas is

that God gave us the best gift we could ask for. That was His perfect Son that would

forgive all our sins.” Sami Jo, a second grader, echoes that message when she writes,

“Christmas means Jesus’ birth.” Kindergartener Isabella says that “we put presents

around the tree for our family.” Jesus IS the best present of all this Christmas season.

Time to Grow Winter Session January 2-February 6 Deadline to register is December 19th

Every Christian can benefit from continued study in God’s Word. Time to Grow is our offering of classes on Wednesday nights for the whole family. Through Bible study, the Holy Spirit works

to build up our faith as we continue to grow and understand God’s Holy Word. We have a meal

available in the fellowship hall starting at 5:00 pm and it’s served until 6pm. The cost is adults

$4.00, 5-12 is $3.00 and 4 and under is free. At 6:00 pm we gather in the church for a time of

devotion and singing before we are dismissed to our classes at 6:20 pm. The children then go to

their own age appropriate classrooms to study the bible through story, crafts, games and music.

The adults have a variety of classes they can choose from at the same time. Our evening ends at

7:20 pm. There is a nursery available for children under 3.

Apologetics: Led by Mark Newman (religion teacher at LCLHS) ~ Room #219 "Always be prepared to give a reason for the hope that is in you." - 1 Peter 3:15

Some topics we will dissect in this class:

The Apologetics Bible study will also be offered in a one day workshop on Saturday, February 16th from 9:00 am-2:00 pm. More details will be available in January.

More than Money Matters: Led by Jim Healy of Thrivent ~ Room #205

Learn how to manage your money in ways that align with your values. Topics to be discussed are:

Preparation for Holy Communion: Led by Pastor Lance O’Donnell ~ Room #206

Educationally it has been shown that a child around the age of ten (10) is capable of believing and understanding what is necessary to receive the Lord’s Supper and make that confession. Some may choose to wait until they are older to commune for the first time. One parent must attend each class with the child. Both parents may attend. This class is for children in 5th - 8th grade or anyone who would like a refresher course on the Lord’s Supper. The students will need a Catechism and a Bible.

What is Truth? Does God exist? What about evolution? What about other worldviews?

If God exists, why is there evil? Can the Bible really be trusted? Is Jesus really God? Did Jesus really rise from the dead?

 Stewardship and values Setting goals

Communicating about money Finding money to save.

THIRD SUNDAY IN ADVENT

Zephaniah 3:14–20

Sing aloud, O daughter of Zion; shout, O Israel!

Rejoice and exult with all your heart, O daughter of

Jerusalem! The LORD has taken away the

judgments against you; he has cleared away your

enemies. The King of Israel, the LORD, is in your

midst; you shall never again fear evil. On that day

it shall be said to Jerusalem: “Fear not, O Zion; let

not your hands grow weak. The LORD your God is

in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will

rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by

his love; he will exult over you with loud singing. I

will gather those of you who mourn for the

festival, so that you will no longer suffer reproach.

Behold, at that time I will deal with all your

oppressors. And I will save the lame and gather

the outcast, and I will change their shame into

praise and renown in all the earth. At that time I

will bring you in, at the time when I gather you

together; for I will make you renowned and

praised among all the peoples of the earth, when I

restore your fortunes before your eyes,” says the

LORD.

Philippians 4:4–7

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice.

Let your reasonableness be known to everyone.

The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about

anything, but in everything by prayer and

supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be

made known to God. And the peace of God, which

surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts

and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Luke 7:18–28

The disciples of John reported all these things to

him. And John, calling two of his disciples to him,

sent them to the Lord, saying, “Are you the one

who is to come, or shall we look for another?” And

when the men had come to him, they said, “John

the Baptist has sent us to you, saying, ‘Are you the

one who is to come, or shall we look for another?’”

In that hour he healed many people of diseases

and plagues and evil spirits, and on many who

were blind he bestowed sight. And he answered

them, “Go and tell John what you have seen and

heard: the blind receive their sight, the lame walk,

lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead

are raised up, the poor have good news preached

to them. And blessed is the one who is not

offended by me.” When John’s messengers had

gone, Jesus began to speak to the crowds

concerning John: “What did you go out into the

wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?

What then did you go out to see? A man dressed

in soft clothing? Behold, those who are dressed in

splendid clothing and live in luxury are in kings’

courts. What then did you go out to see? A

prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.

This is he of whom it is written, “‘Behold, I send my

messenger before your face, who will prepare your

way before you.’ I tell you, among those born of

women none is greater than John. Yet the one who

is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.”
