BERINGER makes Quality
For BERINGER® there is no difference between the parts to the general
public and those for racing drivers. BERINGER® brakes are designed to
resist to the constraints of competition. Therefore, you get technological
advances constantly applied to the products you purchase.
BERINGER® controls perfectly the quality to ensure full security for
users of its brakes. Various quality certifications can attest: ISO 9001,
UTAC, TÜV.
®BRAKE PAD GUIDES: THE PATENT AND HYSTERESIS
Reduction of hysteresis Thanks to the Aerotec® patented chrome-plated brake pad guiding system and its location in a neutral zone where there is no deformation, hysteresis is dramatically reduced.
More aggressive and stronger Only 16.5 bars of line pressure are necessary to reach an equivalent torque, against 20 bars with another caliper. A gain of 20% !
Improved control Compared to another racing caliper, the error of control is reduced to 17% against 53%. In order to reach again the same torque after having released the brake, 14 bars are necessary with BERINGER® caliper and 12 bars with the other systems.
No pad taper The Aerotec® system avoids taper wear, even when the pads are new or worn.
A better feeling As the pads are not taper worn, they do not touch the rotor when you release the brake. There are no more vibrations.
A longer brake pad life Due to the optimisation of the pad wear, life time, efficiency and endurance are improved.
A constant braking feeling The brake feeling is constant whatever the pad’s wear or the temperature conditions.
In this way (see graph), when pressure is put on the brake lever, with the BERINGER® caliper, a torque of 17 mdaN can be obta ined with a pressure
of 66 bars, instead of 80 on a standard system.
When the lever is released, to obtain these same 17 mdaN, 56 bars are needed with BERINGER® against 48 with a traditional system: the error
control is reduced to 17% against 53% before and performance is improved by 23%.

4D System
CAUTION: This system is not designed for long Endurance races but is very interesting
for qualifying races or races such as Superbike.
THE PURPOSE OF THE 4D AEROTEC® SYSTEM
To decrease the gyroscopic effect and the weight while increasing the power.
The power gain compared to a Ø320mm cast iron rotor is 20%, which allows to the riders to shorten their braking
distances significantly. Some comparative tests have shown the obviousness of this gain as well as a lower temperature of the brake rotors.
THE ADVANTAGES OF THE QUADRUPLE ROTOR
Maneuverability improvement of the motorcycle: the gyroscopic inertia of the quadruple rotor is 3 times lower
than the inertia of Ø320mm brake rotors and 30% lower than the inertia of carbon brake rotors, which is the main advantage of this system. For example, the transit time through a chicane or the time necessary to lean on angle is highly
Weight saving is significant compared to standard systems:
CAST IRON BRAKE ROTORS Ø320mm weight: 1950g // QUADRUPLE ROTOR Ø230mm weight: 1460g The 980 grams saved in non suspended weight improve the grip of the front wheel and the acceleration of the bike.
Lifetime much higher In fact, tests have shown a small wear of the system, which allows to consider a lifetime well above the average.
®
Each kit is especially designed for each bike and uses the same center line distances as the original parts
making the installation as easy as that of original parts, with no risk of mistake.

SPECIFIC FINISHES FOR HARLEY & BUELL
Brake rotors, calipers and master cylinders are anodized in black or silver for all the models. Other colors are available on demand but with an additional cost by batch of parts.
CAUTION
The hard nickel, chrom and polish finishes are possible but with an extension of time and an additional cost.
The use of this coating is intended for occasional use of the bike. In any case, water and corrosive substances (eg road salt ....) must not stay on the chrome which will cancel the warranty. Similarly scratches caused by gravel are not under warranty.
A 4 opposed piston kit BERINGER is available for the Harley Sportster models from 1986 to today. It can be mounted without bracket and at the same points of attachment on fork and hub. It works with the original master
cylinder (after 2000).
It is proposed in the two standard colors: black and silver, and also exists for Triumph Bonneville and other motorcycles with a single rotor (contact us).

1- Rear Stainless Steel Rotor Y17LAR 2- 6 Piston Axial Calipers
With its brake rotors mounted close to the hub, this
system aims to minimize as much as possible the
inertial forces applied to the front wheel, that affects
the handling of the bike.
With two small diameter brake rotors mounted close to
the center of rotation of the wheel, the inertia is
reduced by three compared to a conventional system.

MASTER CYLINDERS ®
BERINGER RADIAL MASTER CYLINDER
By reducing friction in the lever and piston movement, the master cylinder allows to reduce the actual balance error down to 7% ! An excellent result compared to conventional radial master cylinders (see the following graph). In the quest to improve braking performance, it has been normal to change the master cylinder to a conventional radial type. However, when you view this graph it is immediately noticeable that between the application and release of the lever, there can be up to 57% balance error leading to
inferior braking performance.
CAUTION: a repeated use of the ABS can damage BERINGER master cylinders.

CAST IRON FLOATING ROTORS
The material used (grey cast iron) is universally used by all the « high performance » manufacturers. However, BERINGER has considerably developed this material in its chemical composition, casting processes and heat treatments, to give BERINGER rotors their exceptional performance qualities, widely recognized in racing. The specific structure of our cast iron allows an extremely fast dissipation of the heat generated by the contact with the pads, resulting in a better balanced temperature distribution through the rotor, between the surface and the inner metal. This dissipation is better than the one which can be obtained with any other material (steel or stainless). The cast iron braking surface remains perfectly plane, resulting in constant braking in all conditions (hot, cold, beginning or end of braking), while accepting far higher temperatures than stainless brake rotors. This increases the braking power available by more than 40%. The coefficient of friction of our cast iron, due to its very fine grain, is also much better, requiring less pressure on the pads, for a given deceleration, than any other material (steel or stainless). The braking surface on BERINGER brake rotors is subject to very little wear, resulting in a very long life time in normal road use, and more than a season of competition (endurance racing) with the Aeronal® Racing.
®
Improved manoeuvrability The gyroscopic inertia is appreciably reduced by the use of narrow braking surfaces and 6 floaters instead of 12, thereby improving the manoeuvrability of the bike.
Cast iron, the best material for competition brake
rotors Universally used in car races (F3000, GT, Rallies) and by all the “high performance” rotor manufacturers, cast iron allows faster heat dissipation than steel and stainless as used in most OEM original motorcycle brake rotors (because lower cost). Cast iron is also better heat resistant. BERINGER has developed a grey cast iron alloy and heat treatments that assure a total reliability of the brake rotors even in very hard conditions. The cast iron rotors are covered with anticorrosion “aluminum plasma”.
INTERESTS OF CAST IRON ROTORS
A weight saving of 20% The rotor can reach much higher temperatures and can be used with sintered metal pads, thanks to narrow braking surfaces without holes, associated to new heat treatment. The hub is manufactured out of a highly perofrmant aluminium alloy, used in the aeronautic industry.
Less constraints Thanks to an exclusive offset system binding the hub and the braking surface which spreads to loads to the supporting areas, the constraints at this very place is divided by two, and the working life of the rotor increases.

BERINGER CAST IRONSTAINLESS STEEL
For several years, BERINGER has been developing a range of very high performance cast iron floating
brake rotors. They combine all the important notions to ensure an efficient and constant braking in every
circumstances.
In 2009, and with an increasing demand for quality stainless steel braking rotors, BERINGER has proposed a range of stainless steel brake rotors. Thus, you have now the choice, for a single hub, between a cast iron rotor for competition, or a high quality made stainless steel rotor, with a double heat treatment which gives it a perfect flatness even during sports use.

CALIPERS ®
All the BERINGER calipers are:
AEROTEC® chromium-plated guides of the pads
Important chamfer allowing an easy removal of the wheel or the caliper without removing the pads (wheels 17" and 16.5")
Low head screw included into the body
The AEROTEC® patented system to guide the pads on the chromium-plated and ground guides allows to reduce considerably the hysteresis of the caliper
Special designed pads sliding without friction on the chromium-plated guides.
Machined from aeronautic aluminum billet They offer better resistance to deformation in high temperatures.
Machined on CNC machines The precision and quality with aeronautic manufacturing process.
This optimized manufacturing process allows the very best materials to be used (unlike cast calipers)
together with closely controlled material thicknesses, so that these calipers are actually lighter than
OEM calipers fitter by motorcycle manufacturers.
The pistons are stainless alloy, which isolates the caliper from the heat generated by the pads (stainless alloy only conducts one thirteenth of the heat conducted by aluminium) and also eliminates any possibility of corrosion. The pistons are centered against the pressure center of the pads allowing a constant and regular wear of the pads.
The exceptional rigidity of these calipers is partly due to the machining technique used, and partly due to the method of assembly of the two parts of the caliper: this minimizes the longitudinal opening of the caliper, when working. The consequences are: incisive braking with a very short response time, constant lever pressure and constant lever travel.
Each type of caliper is specifically designed for each motorcycle. The caliper is mounted directly on the fork
without adaptater and so ensures a perfectly rigid fastening very close to the fork legs.

BERINGER
Technology
The normal force (pressure of the piston on the rotor) produces a tangential force (pressure of the pad on its abutment) due to the rotation of the rotor. The normal force also produces a deformation of the caliper (opening). We can see on a conventional caliper, that there is a friction between the pad and the abutment in the housing. This
friction, due to the deformation of the caliper, block the return of the pad during the release of the brake pedal and produces control errors. Indeed, once the pads at the end of the pistons stroke, they get stuck in their support because of the deformation of the caliper. On BERINGER caliper, the tangential force is produced in a neutral zone, where there is no deformation of the caliper and the chromed slides facilitate the movement (back and forth) of the pads.
A considerable advantage because the sense of security produced by the better control of braking allows
improving lap times.
Thus, (see diagrams) when pressing the brake pedal, you can reach the couple of 17mdaN with a pressure of 66 bars with a BERINGER caliper instead of 80 on a standard system. But also, when when releasing the pedal, to achieve the same 17 mdaN, you will have to reach 56 bars with BERINGER against 48 with a conventional system: the error control is reduced to 17% against 53% before and the performance is improved by 23%.

Cast in the Iron
BERINGER uses a powerful aerospace alloy used on the wings of supersonic planes. This alloy offers a resistance more than doubled compared to the original calipers and high temperature use.
The cast iron machining on CNC allows a perfect control of the thickness and a gain of 30 to 40% on the calipers weight (compared to the original). This machining precision ensures optimum dosage of braking power.
RESULTS OF THE DIFFERENT TESTS
Tests of pad’s wear After 60.000kms, default taper wear found on each of the two pads is less than 0.1mm in road conditions and 0.4mm in racing circuit or off-road.
Usability testing in hostile environments Despite the mud or sand, the operation of the slides is perfect and ensures consistency of the caliper properties no matter its environment.
Improved control of the vehicle with ABS
Reducing the stopping distance on wet surfaces
Official tests of braking performance achieved by UTAC These tests were performed in real conditions of automotive certification. They have demonstrated the effectiveness of slides and their impact on the operation of the ABS. Wheel lock is due to a very strong pressure on the brake pads. During this lock, the ABS has to release the pressure so that the tire gains grip and, in the following sequence, practice new pressure to stop the vehicle. During emergency braking, it therefore takes a series of back and forth of the pads. With patent pad guide, the caliper optimizes the operation of the ABS by releasing the wheel faster and limiting the time during which the wheel is blocked. We observe, on dry ground, a better control of the vehicle.
On the surfaces where grip is bad, the ABS is particularly requested. However, the adhesion ratio on wet surfaces of a vehicle when riding is 0.3 (1.1 on dry surfaces) and 0.1 when the wheels are locked, three times less! UTAC test demonstrated that, on a high-end sports car with a 3.0L V6 engine and equipped with highly reputable brakes, the stopping distance on wet surfaces, from 80 to 0 km/h is reduced to 8.8 meters! (The width of a pedestrian crossing is 5 meters.)

Calipers Pads
BERINGER calipers have been developed using the knowledge acquired from different competitions in which BERINGER is involved. Through innovative patents and technical solutions, they have the advantage of reacting more quickly (reduction of hysteresis) and not causing taper wear of brake pads. Performance is improved. But these are not the only benefits.
The patented guide of the pads on chrome slides greatly reduces the hysteresis of the caliper. The pads are mounted on supports with two ears. These ears move easily on the chrome slides, even during intensive use in harsh environments.
Pads guide: the patent
The system of pads guide on chrome slides positioned at the less stressed places in distortion is a BERINGER
patent.

However, this compensation is insufficient when the pads are new and too important when they are worn. Moreover, compensation is suitable for an average coefficient of friction and can not be adapted to pads with higher or lower coefficient. The unique BERINGER system of compensation angles maximizes taper wear, whether the pad is new or worn, or whether the pads are used with high or low coefficients because the slope is machined into the pad.
A small obstruction and an enhanced security
Thanks to the 3D finite element optimization, BERINGER has been able to reduce the width of the caliper that allows, for example, to avoid offsetting the wheel (49mm for A, B, D, E models and 52mm for C, F models). In addition, the passage of brake fluid integrated into the housing eliminates the hose for external communication to the caliper and thus provides exceptional resistance to external aggressions (shock due to gravel, stones ...).
49 to 52mm
Hydraulic circuit integrated into the housings and link for greater security, no hose outside.
Test of the F1 caliper
Tight tolerances and CNC machining of all components billet aluminium allow to obtain accurate dimensions to limit the clearance related to movements related to braking.
FEM, 3D calculations, machining on CNC machines High Speed used for aerospace, allow full control of the design to manufacturing with advanced tools.
