Such Report is divided into two main parts1. a first part dealing with the main activities and
initiatives jointly performed by the Group participants2. A second part highlighting the main energy saving

Benchmark on power consumption of STB and HGGoal: to provide a snapshot of current state of the art in energy efficiency of 38 Set Top Box (STB) and 21 Home Gateways (HG)
Basically results show an improvement trend for both equipment types in all the specific power modes supportedHowever a quite big discrepancy appears between “best in class” and the worst case.

Benchmarking on Energy monitoringGoal: to have an overview of the implementation level of energy monitoring among different ETNO membersBenchmark of remote monitoring and control (both passive and active) of Central Offices, Data Centres, Radio Base Stations and offices
The level of implementation of the above mentioned 8 item is quite different depending on the various OperatorsThe two items more widely implemented are respectively the passive remote monitoring of Central Offices and Data Centre.

Benchmarking on Fuel CellsGoal: to investigate the use of Fuel Cells among ETF members

Benchmark on Fresh Air Cooling solutionsGoal: to provide a snapshot of current efficiency of different Fresh Air Cooling solutions adopted by ETF members
The test results show a wide range of efficiency values (but different room T and different geographical areas…)

Kyoto Data CenterPower consumption for cooling reduced by 60% with yearly saving of 5GWh or 3.800 Ton CO2
Videoservicesreducing travellingReplacing travel with video conf in 2012 has had the greatest impact, leading to emission savings of 17,395 tonnes
KPN Portal: Energy saving by ICTKPN realized a portal where customers and other individuals or organizations can find out their own saving opportunities

Fresh Air Cooling solution for Data Centersreconstruct the existing air condition systems of the engine rooms, and adapt the fresh air cooling system on it (savings for ~7GWh/year)
Environmental labeling of mobile and fixed devicesThe label covers 3 indicators: Carbon footprint (CO2limitation); Amount of CO2produced during product life cycle; Resources preservation
GREEN P&T/EDITUS building in KaylConstruction of a new building with renewable sources and fresh air cooling (62% energy saving compared to a traditional new building)
Smart subgrid projectStudy aiming to reduce power peaks in the grid, store and use of renewable energy and stabilize the public grid. Lead batteries are used. Networked with a central control station via a controller

Fresh Air Cooling year-round @ DatacenterA pilot has been carried successfully over a period of 1 year. Steps towards a first implementation are ongoing (expected savings: 20GWh/a)
LED for Telephone BoothsReplacing fluorescent lamps with high efficiency LED in 22.000 booths; the lamps can be powered from the usual remote power supply of the phones; it also uses a sensor of presence. Energy savings for 7GWh/year
In-row with cold isle cooling designSeparated cold-hot isle containment design with integrated inrow cooling of equipment racks. This offers possibility to separately control T within equipment racks and surrounding spaceSavings of ~ 1,4GWh/year
Energy saving in COUpgrade and extend the surface of an existing switch site with use of free coolingSavings of ~ 600MWh/yearCO2 emissions reduction ~ 274 tons CO2 / year
