We are so grateful for the

time that our “Bebe”, Betsy

Tucker, had worshipping

here at Central. During her

brief illness we received may flowers,

cards and notes, which she enjoyed

reading. The meal provided for our

family was delicious and very much

appreciated. The kind words and

memories shared with us during and

after will forever keep her spirit alive.

She loved this church so much.

With grateful hearts,

Sunday, June 5, 2016 – 10:30 am. Third Sunday after Pentecost

THE PREPARATION OF GOD’S PEOPLE

PRELUDE

WELCOME - ANNOUNCEMENTS Doug Glenn

INTROIT I Love to Tell the Story Hankey

* CALL TO WORSHIP

One: Loving God, we come to you in worship and thanksgiving.

You are greater than we can understand;

All: open our eyes that we may see the wonderful truths

you have shown to us in Jesus.

One: You are more loving than our hearts can respond to;

All: help us to give ourselves to you in worship

so that we learn what you want us to be.

One: You are wiser than we can know;

All: still our minds as we worship you

so that we can understand the things you are saying to us,

and share your story with the world around us.

One: Loving God, in Jesus you chose to come to the world in humility.

You chose the path the world saw as foolish.

You used what the world considered weak.

All: We worship and adore you.

Let us tell the story!

* HYMN 265 Jesus Shall Reign Where’er the Sun DUKE STREET

* CALL TO CONFESSION

One: We cannot come before God

unless we are first honest with ourselves

about who we are, about the mistakes we make,

and about how well or poorly we care for others.

In this spirit, let us offer our prayers to God. Let us pray.

* PRAYER OF CONFESSION

All: Lord Jesus Christ, you came to serve.

As you came to a blind man and gave him sight,

come to us in our darkness and show us the things we cannot see.

As you came to a man tormented in his mind

and gave him peace and healing,

come to us in our tensions and make us whole.

Lord Jesus Christ, you came not to be served but to serve.

But we see life the other way around:

to get where we do not give, to exploit whom we have not helped,

to use what we have not earned.

As you came to a dying thief and promised him paradise,

come to us now in forgiveness and give us hope.

In your name, Lord, we pray…

* SILENT CONFESSION

* ASSURANCE OF PARDON

One: Amen. While it is true that we have sinned, it is a greater truth

that we are forgiven through God’s love in Jesus Christ.

To all who humbly seek the mercy of God, I say,

in Jesus Christ your sin is forgiven.

All: Thanks be to God!

Large print Bulletins and Hearing Amplification Devices are available.

Nursery provided for infants through 2-year-old children.

* CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE - Gloria Patri #462 (stz. 2)

I love to tell the story; ‘tis pleasant to repeat what seems, each time I tell it,

more wonderfully sweet! I love to tell the story,

for some have never heard the message of salvation

from God’s own holy Word.

I love to tell the story; ‘twill be my theme in glory

to tell the old, old story of Jesus and his love.

THE PROCLAMATION OF GOD’S WORD

A TIME FOR ALL GOD’S CHILDREN Henri Baker

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION

OLD TESTAMENT LITANY Psalm 67

One: May God be gracious to us and bless us

and make his face shine upon us,

All: God be gracious to us.

One: That your ways may be known on earth,

your salvation among all nations.

All: God bless us.

One: May the peoples praise you, O God; may all the peoples praise you.

All: God, make your face shine on us.

One: May the nations be glad and sing for joy,

for you rule the peoples justly and guide the nations of the earth.

All: God, be gracious to us.

One: May the peoples praise you, O God; may all the peoples praise you.

Then land will yield its harvest,

All: and God, our God, will bless us.

One: God will bless us, and all the ends of the earth will fear him.

All: God, make your face shine upon us.

One: May God be gracious to us and bless us

and make his face shine upon us.
