The 55th Annual ICSCC

Championship Awards Banquet

The Internatitonal Conference of Sports Car Clubs has just concluded its 55th season of road racing in the Pacific Northwest. This long history stands as a testimony to the success of its structure, goals, and members.

The first race was held at Abbotsford, British Columbia, on April 7, 1957 and the first awards banquet was held in Seattle on November 30th, at the end of the first season. The Conference Charter was adopted in 1956 by eight founding clubs.

The International Conference of Sports Car Clubs is a federation of independent clubs. During its fledgling years, participation was restricted to clubs that conducted racing events. When the Touring Club of Oregon submitted an application to join Conference, a charter amendment was adopted creating the Affiliate Club category. TCO became the first name on a roster of Affiliate Clubs that participate directly through the Contest Board and indirectly through club and individual racing activities.

Currently, ICSCC is comprised of five Member Clubs ~ the clubs that stage races ~ and four Affiliate Clubs. Member Clubs are represented on the Executive Board, which directs policy, scheduling and financial affairs. All 9 clubs are represented on the Contest Board that formulates the Competition Regulations. Contest Board votes are based on the number of licensed drivers in each club, providing direct driver representation in the rule making process.

As of the end of the 1958 season, the member clubs were: Sports Car Club of British Columbia, Cascade Sports Car Club, Okanagan Auto Sports Club, Puget Sound Sports Car Club, Sand and Sage Sports Car Club, Willamette Motor Club, and Yakima Valley Sports Car Club.

In 1964 the roster of member clubs consisted of the Sports Car Club of British Columbia, Cascade Sports Car Club, Puget Sound Sports Car Club, Sports Car Club of Spokane, Victoria Motor Sports Club.

Novice Driver of the Year

The G.B. Sterne Novice Driver of the Year award is named for the man whose foresight led to the Conference Novice program. G.B. and Lydia Sterne were active supporters of Conference, G.B. being our first Vice President. Always helping new drivers, George and Lydia ran the Novice Licensing Program in the late 60’s, donating many of G.B.’s trophies to the Novices. G.B. raced Morgans to over 170 wins, supporting his racing by operating a Morgan dealership in Sidney and Vancouver, BC. The ICSCC Novice Driver of the Year is selected by the License Director. The award is presented to the driver from the Novice program who has demonstrated outstanding development and ability both on and off the track.
