Writing an Effective Thank You Letter
Nope. Only 5 percent of candidates send thank you letters after an interview!

The thank you letter allows you:
• Thank the interviewer for their time and consideration
• Indicate your interest in the position• Remind them of what you learned during the
interview• Inform them how you can solve their
problem and how you will contribute to the company
• Indicate you will follow up in the near future
Thank you letter “must do” items:
• Send the thank you letter as soon as you can after the interview (within 24 hours at the latest)
• Send a thank you letter to each individual with whom you met during the interview process. Individualize the message as well.
Putting Together the Thank You letter
#1Develop your own stationery with your name, address, phone number, e-mail address
#2Include the date at the top of the letter
#3Include the address block (Name of target – Title, First and Last Name, Job Title, Organization Name, Address, City, State, Zip Code)
#4Include a greeting (example: Dear Mr. Smith:)
#5Body of Thank You Letter• Thank interview for the interview/opportunity• Emphasize your interest in the position• Briefly state how you will contribute to the company• Indicate you will follow up in the near future
#6Closing – Sincerely,; Also, put your signature on letter if you are mailing it.
