2018 Classes Attached are your children’s class lists for next year. We go to great lengths to make sure these are sent out to you at this time. We do this because it allows the school and you to prepare your children as much as possible for next year. It ensures the best possible chance of success for your child. Some schools do not send out class lists or even make their classes before the end of the school year, these are the reasons they don’t:
Student numbers may change, which means the school may lose or even gain a class which changes everything. Fortunately for you, and our school we are financially able to cover the loss of a class for next year. Therefore we are able to go forward with more confidence.
Teachers can change for many reasons (leave, transfers, change of personal circumstance etc etc). If there is a class teacher change this can be distressing for a student or parent who has prepared themselves mentally for the teacher named at this point. I believe that the positive benefits for the large majority outweigh the negative results

Week 9
6 December 2017 Nambucca Heads Public School is an outstanding school, our team is proud of our strong culture, high expectations and successful learners. We cater for the whole child and every single person in our learning community is welcomed, valued and included. Our future focused learning design enables students to be resilient, persistent and confident learners.
for a small minority if there is a teacher change before the start of next year.
Some parents want their children to be with a group of friends that they like. Whilst I understand this, it cannot be a reason for a class selection and anybody requesting this will be told that we are unable to support this request. Additionally learning to make new friends and develop resilience are very important skills your children need to learn.
Some parents and/or students may like one teacher more than another and request to have their child moved into another class. Whilst I also understand this, I am very pleased to say that all of our teachers are outstanding and that there is no need to be having a conversation about one teacher being better than another. Please understand that we cannot support this request.
There may be extenuating circumstances like identified special needs or extreme relationship issues where a parent may request a meeting with me to request that the school consider a change for your children. In these circumstances we would already be aware of the circumstances so
there should be no surprises.

Principal’s report cont….
I believe that waiting until the start of the school year to construct classes and name teachers causes lots of uncertainty and disruption. By making sure we can send these lists to you we can genuinely start to
plan the learning for your children now.
We have already begun to have transition meetings between stages. Personalised learning plans have been shared with future teachers and as a staff we will spend our Staff Development Days planning the learning for your children to start Week 1 Day 1 2018, which is exactly
what should happen.
You will notice one major change, Ms Nicholls has informed me that she is heading overseas to live. Whilst this is a
great loss to our school we are all very pleased for Jacqui to be “living the dream”. Jacqui has been an outstanding teacher for us and will be very missed. Most of you probably don’t get to see the fun side of Jacqui because she is such a professional when she is at work, but she has the most infectious laugh and is such a fun person. I have been so impressed with Jacqui’s ability to reflect and take responsibility for her own improvement as a teacher. She is truly a reflective practitioner. We will miss you Jacqui and look forward to seeing you again. Phil Maunder Principal
