What is Destination ImagiNation?
Destination ImagiNation is an educational activity in which student teams solve open-ended challenges and present
their solutions at Tournaments.
DI is available across the US and in more than 30 countries.
The DI Program• Elementary to University-level
students can participate.• Students must participate in teams of
2 to 7 members.• Teams must have an adult sponsor.• Teams compete in any of 7 Team
Challenges.– A Destination ImagiNation
Challenge is a fun exercise that socially and intellectually activates students by prompting them to use creativity and teamwork to solve a problem.
Tournaments
Teams showcase their Challenge solutions in Tournaments
• All teams participate at the Greater Fort Worth Regional Tournament. The tournament date is February 27th, 2016 at Red Oak High School in Red Oak, TX.
• Competitive teams can advance to Affiliate State Tournament which is in April 2nd in Anna, TX.
• Top teams advance from Affiliate Tournaments to the DI Global Finals in May at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, TN.
Participation
There are 5 age levels in DI:– Rising Stars! (Kindergarten-2nd Grade)– Elementary (3rd to 5th grade)– Middle (6th to 8th grade)– Secondary (9th to 12th grade)– University (University-Level or any High School Team
composed of members who take all AP classes)
Commitment
If you begin this week, you will have approximately 20 weeks to prepare for the tournament.
Two Required Components of Competition
Central Challenge- this is the challenge that the kids will work on for a few months. There are 6
challenges to choose from.Technical, Scientific, Structural, Fine Arts,
Improvisational, and Service Learning

Only the team members and 1 coach can go into the instant challenge room. If a coach has more than 1 team, he/she is not permitted in either IC.

Scoring• The team manager is responsible for turning in all tournament
paperwork at the tournament.• The judges will let you know when to pick up your scores at the
tournament.• Any score discrepancies must be taken care of within 30 minutes
of receiving scores.
Team Choice Elements
In addition to the challenge, the team must present 2 creations called
Team Choice Elements that show off their interests, skills, areas of strength and talents. These can be props, music,
technical gadgets, costumes, physical actions, etc.
The Element must have a meaningful connection to the team’s Central
Challenge solution.

Please go over this before you meet with your team. Interference of a challenge is
prohibited by the coach and parents. Interference is offering any type of
assistance to the team in solving the challenge.
The Cost of DI
$9, 375- The total cost of team numbers paid by the district (125 memberships @ 75.00 each)
$8,750- The total cost of competing at the regional tournament (125 teams @70.00 at team)
$18, 125- Total investment by the districtAren’t we lucky to have a district that
supports this program?!

Expense*If you qualify for the state and/or Global
Tournament, please be aware that your team will have to fundraise for the money. The district and campuses will not be able to provide financial assistance for these tournaments.
*Each team is responsible for registering a volunteer appraiser or pay $50.

The Next Step
Contact your campus liaison and let them know that you would LOVE to coach a DI
team. Make sure you have completed your NISD Volunteer Background Check. They
will get you the names of your team members. Contact the parents with a
location and time of your meetings. Your campus liaison can help you find a place
on campus to meet with your team.

Registering your TeamDeadline for NISD is December 1st
Once you have your list of team members, go to the Greater Ft. Worth Website to register your team. Click on Register teams for Tournament.
Video Tutorial available. Go ahead and have each child fill out a Medical and Media Release form.
We will call for these along with your printed tournament registration form on
December 1st (you will be glad you did this early).

Team Pictures
They will request a team picture for the awards ceremony. Make sure you take lots of pictures of your team. These will
be submitted to GWF DI, not your campus.
You will begin to receive e-mails from DI once you register your team online. They will give you updates
and reminders.
T-Shirts and Trading Pins
DI T-Shirts and Trading Pins are Optional. They are available online soon. T-Shirts are only
required at the State and Global Tournaments.
AwardsThe awards ceremony is a fun and exciting way for kids to celebrate their hard work. Attending the ceremony is optional. ALL Rising Stars will receive a participation medal during their ceremony (5:30-6:30
p.m.)
Competitive teams will be recognized for placing 1st-6th during their ceremony. (7:00-
8:00 p.m.)
DI Seniors will be recognized in a graduation ceremony.
Please have a representative pick up awards if you can not be there.
You will be asked to send in a team picture for the slideshow.
