Vickiebegansewingandcreatingattheageof5whenhermotherbeganteachingherhowtomakedollclothes.Shestartedhercompany"Annie'sKeepsakes",(namedafterhermotheranddaughter)in1990,tocontinueherloveofdesigningandstayinghomewithherchildren.Annie'sKeepsakeshasbeengrowingsteadilyandisnowdistributedthroughouttheUnitedStatesandabroad.

Required:Onefabrictouseinallyourcenters:Onefatquarterwillbeplentyfor9blocks.Chooseacolorthatstandsoutasdifferent,showsupwellandcontrastsgreatlywithallyourotherfabrics.Ifyouuseredforyourcenter,don’tuseredelsewhereinthequilt.Don’tusewhite.

KevinWomack KevinWomackisatextileartistlivinginLynchburg,Virginia.WhilemajoringinthesciencesatJamesMadisonUniversity,hesatisfiedhisstronginterestintheartsbyincludingseveralelectiveartcoursesaspartofhisstudies.Kevinearnedhisbachelor’sdegreeinComputerScienceandwenttoworkintheITfield.Hecontinuedhisartistpursuits,exploringphotography,metals/jewelry,potteryandoilpaintingincommunityartclasses.

In1986,Kevinwasintroducedtoquiltingbyhismaternalgrandmother.Havingalwayslovedthelegacyoffamilyquilts,hedecidedtohaveherteachhimthetradition.Whilehisinterestinothermediahaswaned,hispassionforfiberhasendured.

Overtheyears,Kevinstudiedwithmanyaccomplishedtextileartistsanddevelopedaloveforhanddyeingandpatterningfabricswithsurfacedesigntechniques.Hisexperimentsproducealineofuniquefabricsandclothingthatheexhibitsandsells.

Anintroductiontousingdecorativethreadsandfunembellishmentsforyourquilts.Asamplingofthetopicscoveredincludemachineembroidery,bobbinwork,couching,threadplay,cutworkusingSolvy,foiling,paintsticksandmakingyourown"fabric"withthreads.

Class:SoyWaxBatik–Fridayallday(6hours)Learntocreateyourownfabricdesignsasweexplorelayeringpatternandcolor.Studentswillusebrushesandmetalobjectsinhotsoywaxtocreatepatternsonfabric.Thefabricwillbecoloredwithfabricpaints(whichcurefasteranddon'trequirewashing)insteadofdyes.BeginnertoAdvanced(somedyeexperiencehelpful,butnotrequired).
