Hi there, This comic is about Tax Power, because we believe Tax is
powerful. It funds schools and hospitals everywhere. We all
pay tax, but right now, big companies aren’t paying as much
as they should in developing countries. This takes billions of
dollars away from vital public services every year, and
world’s poorest people are suffering as a result.
That’s sadly the world we live in today.
We often think comics are fantasy. And let’s be honest, they
generally are. But sometimes fantasy is the world we want to
live in. In this case a world where smart young people, like
you dear reader, are taking the future into their own hands
and helping to shape it. Unlike superhero comics, this one
you can actually be part of. Its up to you.
Will you choose to get involved?
We certainly hope this comic will inspire you to join us!

Campaigners Toolkit! Hiyyaaaa all creative campaigners out there! We want to give you a few top tips to try out when you are planning your own campaigns. So here is a sneak-peak into our Activistas’ top secret planning camp for their campaign against MEGAcorp’s dodgy tax practices.- for Tax Power or for other issues you are passionate about!
Many social justice issues are complex because they challenge powerful people! Likewise a campaign is made up of many things: from research on the facts; to intelligent press work; to lobbying important influencers and decision makers; to social media activity; to long-term commitment to grassroots organising.
So to have a successful campaign, the challenge is to find a simple, powerful way to get people on the street and shouting about it online, and decision-makers to feel strongly about it and want to take action.
This handy toolkit will guide you on the first important steps of your journey into campaign planning.
Get focused! An effective campaign is much more than a single flash mob; still you don’t have all the resources in the world. You will need to decide which tactics will have the best chance of influencing the people that can make the change you want to see. But before you even start thinking about tactics - you need to have nailed your answers to some basic, but crucial questions:
What’s your objective? Who´s your target? Who are your audiences and what is your message to them?
The following pages will help you answer these important and often complex questions and provide you with simple tips and tricks to focus your campaign strategy.
The first and most important question you need to ask yourself is, “what exactly
is the change that I want to see?”
Without a clear and realistic objective, your campaign is more like a headless
chicken with no idea where it’s going - and we don’t want that!
For example: the Tax Power campaign aims to stop corporate tax dodging by
making it socially indefensible for corporations to avoid tax. But clearly that’s
too much to achieve in one hit, so you cut that up into smaller, achievable
”milestones” to complete along the way. For example, as we see our Activistas
doing in the story, an option could be to start with one corporation and put
public pressure on them to change their ways.
Choosing your campaign objective guides of all your later choices messages,
audiences, everything! Every choice you make in your campaign should bring
you closer to reaching your campaign objective.
To get a clear objective you’ve already asked
yourself “exactly what change do I want to
see?”, then your second important question
is “who can make that change happen?”
This second question helps you choose the
right target for your campaign. In the story,
the Activistas choose to primarily target
MEGAcorp because this moves them closer
to achieving their objective of this one
corporation changing their behaviour
- make sense?
