Reveling in the Resurrection…… I remember hearing the story of an inspired event that took place at Tallahassee Heights the Sunday after Easter in 2010. My understanding is the late Rev. David Day encouraged the congregation to plan and experience something known as “Bright Sun-day”. This offered a way to avoid experiencing the seemingly inevitable let down after the natural ascent from Ash Wednesday, through Lent, to Easter Sunday. I have heard many persons speak of the excitement and pageantry produced that glorious day. My belief is the challenge of continuing the energy and excitement of Easter celebrations

still exists each year. We certainly had new experiences this year that we can build upon. Lenten lunches and joint wor-ship services with our sister churches steadily refreshed our spirits. Awesome weather for our commu-nity egg hunt and Easter sunrise seemed to be the ‘icing on the cake’ for Holy Week. Let’s commit to not allowing the weeks following Easter to be dull and ordinary. After all, Easter is a SEASON and lasts for six weeks and seven Sundays on the liturgical calendar. Remember that it was after the Resurrection that Jesus again encountered the disciples and many others in their daily lives, yet, in a new light. This and every Easter’s wonder and celebration should live within our hearts and beyond each Easter morning. I believe something as simple as a new spiritual discipline for the Easter season, much like Lent, can keep the celebration going. What would result if we all agreed to spend an hour of each day be-tween now and Pentecost in prayer. May 19th , Pentecost Sunday, may seem far away and it is truly right around the corner? What if we sang a verse each week of “Christ the Lord is Risen Today” as our call to worship? Use your creative imagination to make a way for the excitement to last. Share your choice in a small group or Bible study to encourage others. Go be God’s people daily with all the joy of Easter! Because we serve a RISEN Savior, Pastor Ken

This month we had a working meeting, preparing materials for the egg hunt activities. We are grateful for the large turnout as once again our church can minister to the neighbor-ing communities.

We are still awaiting materials from adult classes that can be catalogued and made available to other classes. If you are in posses-sion of such materials that can be shared, in-cluding teaching materials/ guides; please bring them to the office. You may include a review of the materials if you chose. If something really moved you spiritually, please notate that on the materials.

APRIL 20th: UMW District Workshop on A Christian Perspective on Human Trafficking

Chattahoochee First UMC—Coffee at 9:30AM, Program 10-2

This event is open to everyone.

Rosemary Uebel, Florida Conference UMW Secretary & Children’s Council Rep.

will be our workshop leader

This workshop was planned by the late Chattahoochee UMW President Priscilla Clark before her unexpected death. We are holding it in her memory with District support. The 2013 Reading Program book In Our Backyard by Nita Belles is a good primer for the study. Her sources say Human Trafficking is taking place right on our doorstep, it’s the elephant in the room that no one talks about. Trafficking is modern day slavery. Nita Belles asked God what she could do and the answer was to write this book, of stories that she has seen and heard that broke her heart. Her hope with the book and our workshop is that we will live out our faith in this new abolitionist fight . Our hope is that the Holy Spirit will guide our love and compassion into ways to help and re-gift the love that has been so freely given to us . Come and learn.

A light lunch will be offered, therefore we ask that you please RSVP by email to: [email protected] or phone 850-663-4920. To carpool, meet in the THUMC parking lot by 8:25. Directions to Chattahoochee First UMC. Take I-10 west to exit 166, SR 269, go north. Church is @ 18 W. Marion St., left off of So. Main St.. From US90 turn so. on Main St. to Marion St. then right to the church.

Financial Freedom for Christians

What’s in a title; usually some semblance of the topic to be discussed. In this case the title refers to a biblically based class on how

to achieve financial freedom. Did you know that the Bible has a financial plan for everyone? Did you know that Jesus’ second most

talked subject was money-related issues? Do you know why?

What does financial freedom mean? If you have a house full of kids, it may mean going to the grocery store and not having to worry

about the cost of food. It may mean not worrying about college costs for the twins. Or, it may mean not having to worry about re-

tirement.

Regardless of where you are in the life cycle, this class can benefit you. It is taught by a down-to –earth instructor who knows eve-

rything about money – all two things! It can be earned and spent.

As a new member or one who attends on a regular basis this is an invitation to you to take advantage of a course that can change

your financial wellbeing. The course covers the following financial areas: Income, Giving, Savings/Investments, Debt, and Spend-

ing. The class is held one night a week for an hour over an eight week time period. If you can spare eight hours of your time, I can

guarantee a road to financial freedom you have not known.

If you are interested in taking the course, please fill out the below attendance slip and place it in the offering plate, before April 14th.

If you know of a person who is not a member of the Church but would like to attend the course, feel free to provide them a copy of

the attendance slip and ask that it be returned to the Church office before the deadline, April 14 th. The class is scheduled to begin

April 24th or April 28th and run for eight weeks.

Course instructor is Chuck Janes. Chuck is a certified public accountant (CPA), a father of five, and husband to Candy Janes.

Chuck has served as the Church’s finance chairman for the last decade. He has worked for the Auditor General’s office for the past

30 years and has extensive experience in financial statement analysis, pensions, and investments. He also operates a rental real es-

tate business which provides him valuable knowledge in the area of insurance, mortgages, and building construction.

Chuck has taught this class for over six years and has received nothing but accolades from attendees. If you have not been part of

this THUMC offering, now is the time to sign up and attend. Yes, this invitation is for you, sign up below.

Our 2013 Easter Egg Hunt was phenome-

nal. Through our outreach efforts we were

able to spread the message that God is

Risen to over 140 children and their fami-

lies. Children went home with a rain bottle

containing a cross, a magic art project that

also made a cross appear on the paper that

carried the message that "Jesus is Risen",

as well as eggs from the egg hunt. Children

also enjoyed a bounce house, kamikaze

slide, snacks, and face painting.
