Project Name Water supply, sanitation and health hygiene promotion in 110 schools and
12 Health Units of District Muzaffarabad, AJK.
Project Background Salik Development Foundation has signed an agreement with UNICEF, AJK
for the said project of water supply in 110 schools and 12 health units in 5
union councils of District and Tehsil Muzaffarabad, AJK.
The water sources in the said area were destroyed due to the EQ, Oct, 2005.
SDF IntroductionSalik Development Foundation (SDF) established in 1989. Working area of
Salik Foundation is NWFP, while Salik Foundation has offices in Takht
Bhai, (Mardan), Peshawar and Ghari Habibullah, district Mansehra. The
main cause of its establishment is to ensure a peace full, prosperous and
developed society. For the purpose, SDF has started the process of
community social mobilization and launched several projects i.e Water
supply, Sanitation, Environmental Protection, Health, Education, Agriculture
development projects, Advocacy, Women in Development projects, Relief
Programs, Flood protection, Community Physical Infrastructure Program
(CPI). In the whole process of community development and social
mobilization, SDF has found many valuable pearls in the shape of thousands
of volunteers from different communities of NWFP, especially District
Peshawar, Distt Mardan and Swabi, for the achievement of Goal.

Project area consists of five Union councils of Tehsil & District
Muzaffarabad. These Union Councils are situated in Neelum Valley. All
Project area is totally hilly and out reach. This area has been destroyed by
earth quake on October 8, 2005. Roads and buildings etc has been destroyed
by earth quake. Majority of the people are unemployed. They cut the grass
and woods on the hills to earn for their families. By cast they are Kashmiri,
and by religion Muslim. Spoken languages are Kashmiri, Hindko, Pahri and
Urdu up to some extent. Total population of the area is 55156. To fulfill
their needs people of the area comes to District Muzaffarabad. Total Health
units in the area are 12.

Achievements
To implement the project properly, Salik development Foundation has established two Offices; Main Office is in Muzaffarabad city, while Field office and warehouse has been established in Pattika. Some achievements are:
Trainings for staff capacity building = 3
Latrine installed = 90
Total formed committees in schools = 15
Session Hygiene promotion = 41
Social Mobilization meetings= 98
Salik Development Foundation has designed the whole superstructure
of latrines and Apron (water tank stand).
Latrines Structure and Water tank stand, designed by Salik FoundationAll the above designs for Water tank stand (apron) and latrines super structures designed by SDF. These designed
are approved by UNICEF, AJK. SDF has the privilege that UNICEF, AJK directed all its partner organizations in
AJK and NWFP for the installation of SDF designs.
