Silly Sentences A sentence has two main parts.
The SUBJECT tells what or whom the sentence is about. The PREDICATE tells what is happening.

Verbs take ACTION A verb is a word that names an action. Bake, serves, and stirred are all verbs. Read the sentences and write 6 verbs that could fill each blank.

Connect the VERBS Verbs that tell about actions happening now are called present tense verbs. Verbs that tell about actions that happened in the past are called past tense verbs. Most past tense verbs end in ed. Draw lines to match the present tense verbs with the past tense verbs.

Uncle Bubba’s Bakery My Uncle Bubba owns a bakery. He opened it last year. It is open every day. Last week, my mom and I went to the bakery. We tried many yummy treats! The cookies were the best. They were called “Vanilla Dream Cookies.” My Aunt Pat loves to bake, too. She helps Uncle Bubba every day. My sister and I asked my uncle if we could help make cookies in the bakery, too. Uncle Bubba said, “Maybe. But only if you help eat the cookies!” We said, “You have a deal!”
Uncle Bubba’s Bakery A pronoun is a word that takes the place of a noun. I, you, he, she, it, we, and they are all pronouns. Read Annie’s story about her uncle’s bakery. For each underlined pronoun, write the noun it replaces.
