What is BPA? BPA is part of the U.S. Department of Energy and is
based in the Pacific Northwest.
BPA is a federal nonprofit agency that markets wholesale electrical power from 31 federal hydro projects in the Columbia River Basin, as well as a nonfederal nuclear plant, other small power plants.
BPA also operates and maintains about three-fourths of the high-voltage transmission in its service territory which includes Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Montana, California, Nevada, Utah and Wyoming.

Challenges While headquarters is based in Portland, OR BPA has
offices throughout its service territory.
Some of our biggest challenges relate to how we engage employees who are physically separated and have different resources available to them.
Funding – very limited budget. Most funding comes from individual departments involved in specific initiatives. The majority of our efforts are accomplished through the voluntary involvement of staff.
