Summer Program StaffGirl Scouts take safety seriously. In an effort to assure you of your daughter’s safety and well-being, we want to take a moment to explain how we hire and choose our paid seasonal staff.
Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland hires adult seasonal staff to fill specific job responsibilities (camp directors, waterfront, program activities, unit counselors, etc.) for the delivery of summer program. Only adults age 18 or older may directly supervise participants. All seasonal staff must complete a written application with three character/skill references. All references are checked, a personal interview with the site director is conducted and the applicant undergoes a Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) and Department of Motor Vehicles background check. In addition, supervisors regularly monitor the performance of seasonal staff members.
About Our SitesGirl Scouts of Kansas Heartland program staff ensures that all programs taking place on Girl Scout property or off-site locations follow the Girl Scout safety standards and Safety-Activity Checkpoints. You will find information about Kansas Heartland camp properties before each section.
Swimming InformationAll swimming activities are supervised by currently certified American Red Cross Lifeguards or equivalent with adult watchers as required by Girl Scout Safety-Activity Checkpoint standards. Each person wears a U. S. Coast Guard approved personal flotation device (PFD) at all times when swimming regardless of swimming ability.

CampLogaVista is located on Wellington Lake. The public swimming area is roped and buoyed.
StarwoodsOutdoorCenter swimming area is a small private lake with a gentle sloping sand beach, a swimming dock that has a roped and buoyed swimming area marked by depth from one to 10 feet, and no diving is allowed from the swimming dock.

HowdoIknowifIamreadyforanextendedperiod(fiveto14daysormore)awayfromhome?This is important for both girls and parents to know if you (and your parents) are ready for an extended stay away from home. Girls who have developed these traits are most likely ready for camp:
Independent: She can choose her own clothes, brush her teeth and take care of chores without a lot of supervision.Confident: She handles new situations without becoming overly anxious.Aware: She has already stayed away from her family and knows she can do it.Social: She has been with other girls her own age while apart from her family.Self-reliant: She knows her own mind and is able to make decisions for herself.ENTHUSIASTIC ABOUT GOING: She really wants to go and looks forward to being out-of-doors.
Parents, areyouready?Your daughter will be more comfortable in her experience if she knows you are confident in her ability to succeed while she’s away. For many parents, sending a child to camp for the first time is an emotional experience. Before sending your daughter to camp, take time to evaluate whether YOU are ready for her to go.

How to reserve your place for summer program and moreRegistering for summer programs is easy as one, two, three! Be sure to check with your daughter’s leader to find out if her troop is planning to attend any summer programs together as a group. Troop leaders may complete online registration for girls in their troop participating in troop programs requiring adult participation. Parents should register their daughter(s) participating in troop programs as an individual or in individual girl programs. Please read this section completely.
Camp registration begins April 1Registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Placement will continue as long as spaces are open.
All girls, kindergarten through 11th grade who are attending camp must be registered Girl Scouts. Girls who are not registered Girl Scouts must register as members by paying the $12 Girl Scouts of the USA annual membership dues at the time they register for camp.
Full payment is due at the time of registration. Complete medical information and parent permissions are due by 5 p.m. of the program reservation deadline. Reservations with incomplete medical information and parent permissions will be deleted and the spot will be filled by someone on the waiting list.
