Summer Institute 2014
Technology Integration Matrix Laurie Kirkland
Agenda
• Connecting to the CEL 5D+• Session Objectives• Explaining the purpose and structure of the
TIM• Exploring the TIM• Reflecting on the TIM• Continuing Support for the TIM
Session 1: Purpose Technology Integration Matrix
What is it?The Technology Integration Matrix (TIM) illustrates how teachers can use technology to enhance learning for K-12 students across a continuum using three indicators: student, teacher, and instructional setting
What is the purpose of the Technology Integration Matrix? TIM provides:• a framework for defining and evaluating technology integration• teachers with models of how technology can be integrated into
instruction in meaningful ways• gives teachers and administrators a common language for setting
goals• video example lessons
What skills do students need for their futures? What tools can teachers use to set objectives?
CEL 5D+ Purpose Connections
• P1: Connection to standards, broader purpose and transferable skill ex: authentic attribute
• P2: Connection to previous and future lessons ex: constructive attribute
• P5: Success Criteria and performance tasks –ex. goal-oriented attribute
Session Objectives and Success Criteria
• Explore the TIM’s structure and activity examples
• Reflect on how to implement ideas from the TIM
By the end of the session today you should be able to:• Explain the structure of the TIM• Where to find ideas of how to incorporate
technology in meaningful ways
TIM - Resources
• Frequently Used Links• SWIFT under Student Tools

Food for Thought….
• How can I use the TIM for helping students obtain the skills they need for their futures?– Collaboration– Managing their own behavior– High cognitive demand– Ownership of their own learning
• How do I use this tool to help me set my objectives?
The Structure of the TIM
• 5 attributes of learning environments
• 5 levels of technology integration – like a continuum

Exploring the TIM
• Go to SWIFT Session 1 page• Click on the Florida TIM website• To get to the specific indicators – click on the
arrow in the matrix headings – Active or Entry• Notice the different layouts
– Three indicators: student, teacher, instructional setting
– Where the model videos are– How the continuum chages…
• Click on one of the video examples
Reflecting on the TIM
• Go to SWIFT site again• Click on Teacher Indicators link
– Look at the matrix and reflect on your classroom practice• Do you have areas of strength and weakness?• How could you use this matrix to help set your personal
goals with your administrator for next year?
• Repeat the process with either the Student or the Instructional Setting indicators
Discussion
With your elbow partner discuss the following questionHow could you use the TIM to help move
you, your PLC, or your staff towards a more student-centered, technology rich
environment?
Technology Integration Matrix
• Use the tool to help set your goals for the school year• What do you want students to learn and how will you help them get
there?
• CEL 5D+ - Pick a dimension – these will help determine which Matrix of Indicators you will use
• Curriculum and Pedagogy – teacher indicators• Student Engagement – student indicators• Classroom Environment and Culture - Instructional Setting Indicators • Assessment – all indicators –self evaluation
• Keep these ideas in mind as you go through the various sessions today – to see how the tools can support your professional growth in the CEL 5D+ framework
Resources
• SWIFT site• Florida and Arizona – different video
models• Go to Florida site
– Resources tab– Digital Tools tab– Grade level tab
Continuing Support
• Request school site PD on the TIM and project planning from Technology Integration
• Check out the PD offerings on Curriculum Center –One to One site
• Review the sample videos on Florida site (http://fcit.usf.edu/matrix/matrix.php ) and the Arizona site ( http://www.azk12.org/tim/index.php )
Thank you for coming
So you should now be able to:– explain the structure of the TIM– Know where to find ideas of how to incorporate
technology in meaningful ways
