Stimulus-triggered fate conversion ofsomatic cells into pluripotency
Japanese research team discovered an unexpected phenomenon of somatic cell reprogramming into pluripotent cells
Introduction
• Stem cells : ability to develop to any kind of cells
• Can be found in body or induced in laboratory
Why stem cells ?
• Cell-based Therapy .. Replace failed systems
• Research tool .. Study development
• resource for testing new medical treatments
Sources of stem cells
• Naturally :
When cells mature from embryo , some still immature
Bone marrow , blood , adipose tissue
• Induced :
• Transplantation of nuclei
• Modification of somatic cells
• Harsh conditions . . Acid bath
What is new in this research ?
• Researcher develop a way to generate SC* from adult cells ( acid bath )
• Easy
• Fast
• No risk
* SC : stem cells
Designing the experiment
• Cell model : hematopoietic spleen (CD 45+)
• Animal model : mouse
• Conditions : acidic
• pluripotency markers : Oct 4
( Nanog, Sax2, Ecat1, Esg1, Dax1 )
No study so far has proven that such pluripotent cells can arise from
differentiated somatic cells
Results and discussion
Conclusion
This study show that when adult cells put in sub-lethal conditions it would not die ,
Instead it would converted to the un differentiated situation in which it Would
develop to any kind of cells
