CNG bus
• Designed & operated by Gas Bus Alliance• Supplied by Wartsila
Carbon balance• Biomethane is produced
using anaerobic digestion of cattle slurry and vegetable waste – in Sussex.
• This biomethane is bought by Reading Buses, and injected into the national gas grid.
• Gas is drawn from the gas grid at our depot to refill buses.
• Biomethane isn’t burned in the buses – it’s burned elsewhere and balances the fossil gas in the plant.

Where next?
• Demand for travel will increase by 10% from known and committed development
• This means potentially 2m passenger journeys and perhaps 12 PVR across our network just from growing current bus use
• Mode change necessary to prevent increasing car congestion – perhaps 3m more trips and an extra 20 PVR needed, some MRT
• Much of this growth will be in south Reading
