Sites Targeted in Canada for
Possible Hydrail Deployment
1. Ottawa, Ontario
OC Transpo Trillium Line Extension to Ottawa Airport:
– Project approved by Ottawa City Council
– Federal Government to provide C$1.28 B
– Currently operating Alstom Coradia DMUs
– RFP issue for additional railcars imminent
Question: Will RFP permit alternative motive power and fuel to be considered?

2. Toronto, Ontario
Metrolinx GO Train commuter network:
– Tier 4 Diesel Locomotive, 12 bilevel coach trains
– Electrification is approved-in-principle
– 2010 study recommended catenary system
– Phased project funding approved by Ontario Government
– Go-ahead delayed due to various uncertainties
– Question: What to do?

News Item 15 June 2017: Ontario looks at
hydrogen-powered trains for GO Transit
Ministry of Transportation to conduct feasibility study of hydrogen trains, which are silent and emit only steam and water, as part of GO Transit electrification assessment. The provincial government has decided to pursue potentially groundbreaking clean train technology as part of its plans to electrify the GO Transit network.

Some Background
to Current Hydrail Activities
• 1) Hydrail 2013 in Toronto was venue for Hydrogenics Corporation to identify new rail opportunities for HFC.
• 2) Telligence Group was retained to undertake HFC application study for the Toronto UP Airport Express Shuttle railcars to be deployed for 2015 Pan-American Games.
• 3) OEM supplying UP Express railcars was reluctant due to schedule pressure, so other OEMs canvassed by Telligence Grp
• 4) Alstom Transport (Paris) responded, with visit to Hydrogenics in 2014, coordinated by its Ontario rep, L. Goudge (who had attended Hydrail 2013 in Toronto) complementing DLR tech evaluation of competing FCs
• 5) Press Release May 26, 2015, on the Hydrogenics- Alstom Transport Agreement to Commercialize HFC.
