Explain the rise of early civilization in the river valleys of the Tigris and
Euphrates in Mesopotamia
THE LANDThe Tigris, Euphrates, Jordan, and Nile Rivers flow through the Fertile Crescent.
These four great river valleys provided fertile soil for growing crops and rich water sources to irrigate crops.
By 8000 B.C., Farmers began to grow crops.
The people who lived in these valleys developed advanced civilizations.
All of them created tools and written records.
The Best farming land was known to be the area between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers, which the Greeks later referred to it as MESOPOTAMIA, which is the Greek word that means land between the rivers.
* The Tigris and Euphrates Rivers flooded frequently. Farmers joined together to control the flooding.
* People built a system of canals to bring water to their fields and to return water to the rivers after floods.
* New civilizations developed as a result of this.
* The Civilizations eventually disappeared because there were not natural boundaries to protect them from invasions.
Mesopotamia is currently located in
the country of IRAQ.
