The St. Joseph Candle burns memory of James Rapp Neal Fiorella
As we approach Christmas in a little over a week, we may be feeling some excitement or anxiety of making sure that we have everything ready for the holiday. We may feel the need to do some last-minute shopping, decorating and/or baking. Maybe we need to make sure we have everything for the holiday meal or getting ready to travel. To get us more in the spirit of the holiday we might take the time to listen to Christmas music, watch some Christmas movies, or maybe drive around looking at Christmas decorations. We will go through all this effort even though we know that in another couple weeks it will all be over for this year. The decorations will be put away. The radio stations will stop playing the Christmas music and that Christmas spirit will be faded away.
Yet St. Paul shares with us about something much greater. Something that we might already know but might forget with all of the distractions of the Christmas season. St. Paul reminds us today that we can have great joy through the person of the Holy Spirit and we need to make sure we don't let worldly distractions quench this love of God.
It is through the Holy Spirit we experience God's great divine love for us that allows us to experi-ence a true peace and joy in our body and soul. It is a lasting peace and joy which always allows us to truly rejoice. This is the true Spirit of Christmas. God coming to us by humbling Himself to share through our humanity in his Son, Jesus Christ who came to us as an infant in a stable and wrapped in rags. God is full of love for us, to save us and give us an opportunity to share in His divinity. This is His loving gift to us.
Shouldn't we make sure we are prepared to accept this perfect gift. So as we prepare to celebrate His birth this coming week we should follow what St. Paul is telling us today. We need to take the time to reconcile ourselves with God through the Sacra-ment of Reconciliation, so we can be fully open for the coming of our Lord. Then we can "Rejoice al-ways. Pray without ceasing. In all circumstances give thanks, for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus. " We will experience the true Spirit which will not fade, He will be with us forever.
Have a very Blessed Christmas!
Deacon Lou

Feast of the Epiphany
Just as the three Kings brought gifts to the Infant Child, Jesus, the St. Patrick’s Pro-Life Committee invites you to bring gifts for young children and the unborn.
Each family is asked to bring Infant and Toddler hats and mittens to Mass on the Weekend of January 6th-7th to be presented at the Offertory Procession. These collected items will then be distributed to the Sisters of Life and the Missionaries
of Charity.
God, in Baptism you called me by
name and made me a member of
your people, the Church. Help all your people to know their
vocation in life, and to respond by living a life of holiness.
For your greater glory and for the service of your people, raise up dedicated and generous leaders
who will serve as sisters, priests, brothers, deacons,
and lay ministers.
Send your Spirit to guide and strengthen me that I may serve your people
following the example of your Son, Jesus Christ, in whose name I offer this prayer. Amen.
