Fifth Sunday in Easter
Reading I
Acts 6: 1-7
They chose seven men
filled with the Spirit.
Reflection: In Acts of the Apostles, we
hear about the structural growth of the
early community of believers. To
overcome the disparity of sharing their
resources, they chose seven respectable
people to help with both the preaching of
the Word and the caring for the poor. Do I
share in the role of deacon in our faith
community by announcing the Word and
helping the needy?
Psalm 33
Lord let your mercy be on us,
as we place our trust in you. [Alleluia]
PARISH MISSION STATEMENT: The very heart of St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Church is Jesus Christ present on the
altar. Our mission, born at that altar, is to be sent forth into our neighborhood in order to
build up the Kingdom of God. The labor of this effort must address in deed more than in
word the needs of our people.
Reading II
1 Peter 2: 4-9
You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood.
Reflection: St. Peter (the rock) identifies
Jesus (the living stone) as the cornerstone
for those followers in faith. The followers
of Jesus live their faith in ways that brings
forth spiritual unity in the community. Do
we believe that our lives reveal the God
who calls us out of darkness into His
wonderful light?
Gospel
John 14: 1-12
I am the way and the truth and the life.
Reflection: This passage from John’s
gospel is also heard at funerals. We are
comforted to know that God has created a
place for us … both here on earth and in
heaven. Philip asks to grow in
understanding. Jesus identifies Himself as
“the way, the truth and the life.” Do I make
a place for God’s way, truth and life in this
world now, and in the world to come?

Anima Christi
Soul of Christ, sanctify me.
Body of Christ, save me.
Blood of Christ, inebriate me.
Water from the side of Christ, wash me.
Passion of Christ, strengthen me.
O good Jesus, hear me.
Within your wounds, hide me.
Permit me not to be separated from you.
From the wicked enemy defend me.
At the hour of my death call me,
bid me come to your side, that with your
saints I may praise you forever and ever.
Amen

WE REMEMBER

PASTOR’S CORNER
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
Jesus Christ is risen! He is risen indeed!
Our Easter Season continues with a message
of hope … do not let your hearts be
troubled! Jesus reminds asks us to dream of
God’s plan for us. There is plenty of room
in our Father’s kingdom and Jesus shows us
the way, the truth and the life!
We celebrate Mother’s Day
and let our hearts be free of
troubles. We are mindful and
aware how we live these
days differently. We share
deep gratitude for Mothers,
but cannot include a strong
hug. We share profound
love for those who have
nurtured and cared for us,
but cannot share a meal with
them. We share deep hope
for elders, providers, and
friends with a special prayer:
As a Mother gives life and
nourishes her children, we
ask you, our Loving God
to bless our Mothers. May
they grow in faith and
deepen in love. May we
honor and respect them in
the days to come. Amen!
Jesus Christ is risen! He is risen indeed!
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

Our Parish Pastoral Council met last Sunday (online) to discuss the Council Member
transition, review the budget presentation and offer concurrence. Council members were
given an update from the Parish Life Coordinator on upcoming news for the Parish.
The newest members started engagement with the Council. Jerry Hall will head the
Spiritual Life and Worship Commission and Myles McCabe will chair the Administration
and Finance Commission beginning June 1. Martha Buck resigned from the Secretary
position due to family challenges. The next person from the election recommendation
process was Jerry Nichols. Jerry has accepted the post of secretary for the Council. A
transition celebration will occur when we can gather back together as Church.
The Fiscal Year 2021 Budget presentation was given to the Council. Elements included
commission responsibilities, determinants for financial health, the third (3rd) quarterly
report as was in April 26th’s Bulletin, and 2021 proposed budget including capital
improvements. The Council’s role is not to approve the budget, but to ask clarifying
questions and offer concurrence. The Council concurred with the proposed 2021 budget.
The budget will move forward and be presented to the entire parish at the Sunday
Conversation on May 17th at 11am. That meeting will be a Zoom Meeting (Meeting ID:
837 8546 0204 / Password: 022719) or dial-in (+1-312-626-6799) or copy and paste the
