St Mary’s Catholic College, Blackpool Refurbishment of a Victorian School
Project Description
St Mary’s Catholic College occupies Layton Hill, the highest point in Blackpool on a sloping site off the A587. The project was to establish a 1,200 place secondary school, sixth form centre and a brand new 210 place primary school. The scheme also involved the building of a new parish church for Christ the King. Key Facts Completed in 2014, the refurbishment of the school brought together the disparate elements of the existing school into a single, modern teaching facility as part of the Building Schools for the Future initiative in the Blackpool area. The new facilities, included science and computer labs, 40 classrooms, a fitness gym new school hall, dining hall and staff facilities. The sixth form learning centre also offers modern facilities with the introduction of a communal area and a learning resource centre.
